We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition. The first Semi-Final would see ZVC Indoor Gent versus Allez Les Pinos.

ZVC Indoor Gent were the number one team in the Plate from the group phase – they were unbeaten in 5 group games and now 6 after the Quarter-Finals. They had scored 7 goals and conceded just 2.

Allez Les Pinos had proven to be much more unpredictable (4-0 and 5-1 wins, 4-0 defeats) but they came into the game on the back of a 5-1 win and 2 successive wins.

ZVC were aiming to reach their second eurofootballfives.com final and gunning for their first silverware. They were a team looking in determined mood. Against Portuguese opposition so far today they had 1 win and 1 draw.

Correction. That should be 2 wins and 1 draw as they progressed past Allez Les Pinos thanks to goals from Jens Schollier and Michael Ingels. Both of these players had just scored their third goals of the tournament.

 
 
 

The second Semi-Final was Southgate County 1s versus Trilution FC. Who could join ZVC Indoor Gent in the Plate Final?

Southgate County 1s were flying the flag for England in this Plate competition. Due to the defeat of Allez Les Pinos, Trilution were now flying the flag solo for Portugal.

This was the 2016 Lisbon Tournament Plate champions versus the 2016 Algarve Open Plate champions. So far we had 12 teams who had won 2 (or more) Plate competitions. One of these teams would be the 13 th if they could go all the way to victory.

It was Trilution who forged ahead and claimed the early ascendency. Nuno Pines scored his seventh goal of the tournament which took him to third position in the top goalscorer stakes. His goal was supplemented by Paulo Marta's third of the day.

2-0 at half-time was a big hill for Southgate County 1s to climb. It became a mountain when Paulo Marta extended that lead to 3-0. Southgate County 1s were not done yet as they started to scale that mountain. A Simon Hicks goal got them to the foothills before a Luke Kelly goal got them even closer to the summit.

Ultimately it was just too much for Southgate County 1s to do though as they ran out of time. Trilution had received a scare but they were through to the final.
