Group B kicked off with two teams new to eurofootballfives.com competition. The first two teams to get underway on Pitch B were Parkwood A (Eng) versus fellow countrymen Lindfield FC (Eng). As both of these teams were on their eurofootballfives.com debut they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence….

It was Parkwood A who drew first blood with Jordan Griffiths having the honour of scoring their first goal in our tournaments. The goal came in the first half and was good enough to give Parkwood a lead at the interval.

Group A had shown us comebacks were certainly possible in this tournament but most comebacks came from being just the one goal behind. The second goal in this game would be the crucial strike in this match and it went to James Staunton of Parkwood A. At 2-0 they were on their way to victory.

Jamie Portsmouth and his defence went on to keep a clean sheet and so we finished at 2-0. Three points in the bag for Parkwood A, plenty of time in Group B for Lindfield FC to get a foothold in this tournament.

Match 2 saw Trinacria (Bel) versus Hellgarve Kraken's (Por). Both teams were regulars in our tournaments and by appearing today they had a combined experience of 11 tournament appearances.

Hellgarve Kraken's had appeared as recently as last month at the 2019 Mallorca Fives – just 3 weeks ago. They enjoyed a successful group campaign with 4 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat. They conceded just 2 goals in 6 group games as they finished second of 7-teams behind defending champions Bar Maruru (Spa). In the knock-out phase they drew 0-0 with Urbansport (Spa) in the Quarter-Finals and went through 2-0 on penalties. They were eliminated in the Semi-Finals by the eventual champions, Ecuador 100% (Ecu).

It was a winning start for the Portuguese here in the Algarve but they had to work for it after a 0-0 first half. After the break they showed their class with Joao Miguel, Ivo Gomes and then Joao Miguel all finding the net for a 3-0 win.

The final two teams to get their 2019 Algarve Open tournament campaign underway were Red Star (Por) and Show Me Da Mane (Eng). As with the first game of the group we had two teams making their first appearance at these events. We were eager to see how the two teams would get on and especially with regards to Show Me Da Mane in terms of adapting to Portuguese conditions.

It appeared that they had adapted quite well as it was the English team who made the first half breakthrough. Karim Rohbani-Eivazi lead the way with his team's first of the tournament. Show Me Da Mane maintained the lead until the half-time whistle.

There was no addition to the score in the second half so it remained a good start to the tournament for the English team – first goal, first win, first clean sheet and a very good 3 points.
