For the fifteenth time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. This was the first time we had a 23-team tournament in addition to 24-team (x9) 25-team (x3) and 32-team (x2) events. This was a great opportunity for the teams finishing 5th and 6th in the group phase to turn their fortunes around and walk away with a trophy.

As we had 23 teams we only had 3 x 6th placed teams so the 5th team in Group C (Southgate County 2s) would earn a bye to the Semi-Finals. We also had the sad news that the day had taken it's toll on Mavericks who due to injuries would be unable to fulfill their knock-out fixtures. This meant their prospective opponents Scoregasm FC would also secure a bye to the Semi-Finals.

On Pitch B we had the intriguing contest of Tysers versus Trinacria. Why intriguing? Well it was a repeat of the 2018 Lisbon Tournament Trophy Final.

In Lisbon last year the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in normal time in the final before Trinacria went on to win the penalty shoot-out 3-1. In the group phase of the Lisbon Tournament Trinacria had defeated Tysers (2-0) so this was a third opportunity for the English team to defeat their Belgian opponents.

Both teams came into the game with a bit of momentum. Tysers lost their opening 3 games but were now unbeaten in 2 matches after finishing with two 1-1 draws. Could it be another 1-1 draw leading to another penalty shoot-out?

Trinacria came into the knock-out phase on the back of a thumping 5-1 win at the end of Group B. This game was a lot more calm in terms of the number of goals.

Half-time came and went with the scores level at 0-0. The second half was there to be won by either team. It was quite a contest but it was Tysers who emerged victorious. Lee Shaw was the hero of the hour with the crucial goal that sent his team through, 1-0.

The other remaining Quarter-Final was Parkwood A versus Purnell Youth. Parkwood A came into the game as 5th position in Group D versus 6th position in Group C for Purnell Youth.

Parkwood A were the top ranked team in the Trophy draw with 2 wins and 6 points from their group games. In fact, if the last round of games in Group B had gone a little differently they might even be playing their knock-out football in the Cup.

Purnell Youth had a record in knock-out games in our tournaments they would be desperate to change. So far, it read played 3 lost 3 but all at Plate level. They lost 9-4 in the Quarters of the 2017 Amsterdam Fives and then with 2 teams at the 2018 Mallorca Tournament lost 1-0 and on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

They got off to the perfect start in trying to wipe out that record. Bradley Hooper and Tom Cook both scored their second goals of the day in a first half that saw them claim the ascendency. They saw the game out in the second half and would progress to the next stage.

It was a surprise for us that Parkwood A were out after such a strong group phase. They still had involvement in the tournament with their B team in the Cup.
