So,
having watched Goldsmith Williams versus Cosegur
Balear, Cheesecake FC now knew exactly what
they needed to do in their final fixture versus
Inextremes. The first part of the equation was
to win as 3 points would put them level with
Goldsmith Williams with a return of 10 points.
The second part of the equation was to win by
3 goals in order to move above their rivals
on goal difference and claim 2nd place.
Inextremes
had needs themselves. They were currently in
5th position and if they lost they could still
qualify for the Plate in 5th if Pricers Whiteley
All Stars lost their last game and Inextremes
retained a better goal difference. If Inextremes
could grab a draw then a Whiteley defeat/draw
would see them in 5th and qualify for the Plate
– a Whiteley win would see Inextremes finish
bottom and qualify for the Plate as long as
they lost by less than 6. More than 6 and they
would be 6th and in the Wooden Spoon. The last
option, a win for Inextremes would see them
secure Plate qualification.
A
win was never going to be easy and at half-time
it didn't look likely as Cheesecake FC led 2-0
with both goals from Wes Armstrong. Cheesecake
FC were halfway there but needed more goals
to secure the 3 goal winning margin – Justin
Rees and Waseem Khalique duly obliged with further
goals in the second period. David Lopez Sastie
did cause Cheesecake FC a brief scare but the
final result of 4-1 was just what Cheesecake
FC needed.
Sastie's
strike was Inextremes' first goal of the day
and they had done just enough to avoid the Wooden
Spoon although it was not yet known if they
would finish 5th/6th.
