Norton Hill Old Boys had the worst possible start with a 5-0 defeat so the last thing they wanted was a game against Goldsmith Williams. Goldsmith Williams had a phenomenal group record that, including their first game today, reads;

Played 22, Won 19, Drawn 2, Lost 1.

Goals For: 80, Goals Against: 21.

Hardly a game Norton Hill Old Boys needed to turn their fortunes around and so it was perhaps no surprise that Goldsmith Williams ran out comfortable winners, 4-0. Craig Ralph struck first before Liam Currie added his second of the tournament. Ralph added his second of the game before Chris Williams completed the scoring with his second in as many games.

Goldsmith Williams were making serene progress thus far. Norton Hill Old Boys were struggling but it was still early.

Pricers Whiteley All Stars and Inextremes went into their second games both looking for their first points of the day and a win would set them off nicely.

In an attacking game with chances at both ends it was perhaps a surprise we entered half-time all square at 0-0. In the second period there was still no breakthrough as the two defences proved to be in control and with a clean sheet each the teams had to settle for 1 point each in a 0-0 draw.

The draw, whilst obviously better than a defeat, was not too much help for the teams at this stage as they were 5 points off the lead. Only time would tell how valuable this point could prove in the final league placings of Group C.

We finished off Round 2 with Cheesecake FC versus Cosegur Balear – both had looked good in the opening round with solid victories and another here was needed to keep pace with Goldsmith Williams at the top of Group C. A draw would be ok but a defeat would be a setback.

We mentioned Goldsmith Williams group record above and Cheesecake FC also had a fantastic record;

Goals For: 39, Goals Against: 7.

The one draw came in a dead-rubber at the end of the group phase in Portugal so this could easily be 100% record! They were averaging more than 4 goals per game in the group stage but would not add to their tally in this match – the first time they'd been “shut out” (to use some NFL vernacular).

Vicentre Cedrun Martin did score for Cosegur Balear and they earned a very valuable 1-0 victory that inflicted a first group phase defeat on Cheesecake FC and took them to the top of the Group C table. Cheesecake FC still had time to recover though.
