Eighteen
teams came to do battle at the 2012 Mallorca Tournament,
two remained – Cosegur Balear and Di Stefano Peluguira.
It was Spain versus Spain for the ultimate prize.
We
were treated to a game that was worthy of a final
which was full of goals, entertainment and watched
by a supportive crowd who thoroughly enjoyed it.
The best thing about the final was that as the
two teams took to the field it was a 50/50 guess
on who would come out on top.
Cosegur
Balear continued to retain their 100% record through
7 difficult games had scored 23 goals and conceded
just 1. Di Stefano Peluguira were not too shabby
either with 6 wins and 1 draw out of 7 games,
scoring 29 goals and conceding 5 goals.
The
first half belonged to Cosegur Balear as they
led 2-0 and were firmly in control. The opening
goal came from Marcos Lopez Juan who found the
perfect time to score his first goal of the day.
The second came from Vicente Cedrun Martin with
his 7th of the day that put him in with a shout
of the top goalscorer prize.
Having
conceded 1 in 7 games it was going to be pretty
tough for Di Stefano Peluguira to get back into
it but they did. In the second half Juan Hernandez
Hernandez made it 2-1 and it was game on. Di Stefano
Peluguira then won a penalty and they had a golden
opportunity to level things up. The penalty was
blazed over the bar and with it their tournament
was over. Cosegur Balear then held on and won
2-1.
The
winners of the 2012 Mallorca Tournament – Cosegur
Balear.
We
also congratulate Inter Women's Daniel Powell
who claimed the Top Goalscorer Award. He was one
of three players who finished on 8 goals (Mark
Paget of Norton Hill Old Boys and Juan Jose Soria
Lizana of Di Stefano Peluguira were the others)
but won the award on countback as he played 6
games compared to the 8 games for the other two.
Our
congratulations also go to Norton Hill Old Boys
in the Plate competition. We would like to take
this opportunity to thank all our teams who participated
in what was a great day's competition. It was
a pleasure to host you all and we hope to see
you all again at a tournament very soon. |
