With
the above result it was seemingly now a 3-way
battle at the top for the Cup qualification
places. Those finishing in 1st and 2nd would
guarantee their qualification – whoever finished
in 3rd would have to wait and see if they were
in the top two 3rd places to see if they too
would make the Cup.
Two
of those teams now came up against each other
in direct competition as Di Stefano Peluguira
took on Olympic Phil Babb. The latter held the
advantage as they had a 100% record. A draw
would suit them and keep their opponents at
bay but a win would guarantee a Cup place.
It
wasn't looking good at half-time though as Di
Stefano Peluguira lead 1-0 couresy of Alberto
Fernandez Fernandez…so good they named him twice
although I wish they hadn't as I'm getting bored
of typing Fernandez…darn…done it again. Things
got worse for Olympic Phil Babb as Juan Jose
Soria Lizana made it 2-0 when firing in from
a tight angle. James Cooper, who was enjoying
a fine day in front of goal, reduced arrears
to 2-1 but time was not on their side and the
match finished 2-1.
It
was only a 2nd defeat in 31 games for Olympic
Phil Babb but one that could have serious consequences
as they lost first position and could even slip
to third by the end of the round. For Di Stefano
Peluguira it was a sensational result that put
them top and they had to be considered contenders
for this competition.
The
result was perfect for Inter Women as one of
the two teams had to drop points which they
could then take advantage of in their game.
