The first final of the day would see GHSFC versus AFC Basemen. With eight games of football already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Let's have a look at the two teams' credentials for the Plate title:

GHSFC (Eng)

Record today: Played 8, Won 4, Drawn 0, Lost 4.

Goal difference today: 13-14

Current unbeaten run: 3 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Arjan Chagger (8)

Clean sheets: 2

AFC Basemen (Eng)

Record today: Played 8, Won 4, Drawn 2, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 9-6

Current unbeaten run: 2 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Adam Speake (2), Jack Utting (2).

Clean sheets: 3

These two teams had met earlier today in Group B and on that occasion it was GHSFC who were victorious, 1-0. A repeat would clearly be just what the doctor ordered for GHSFC. Could AFC Basemen exact their revenge though?

The stage was set, let's get the action underway. It was a very even contest and there was very little to choose between the two teams. It was perhaps no surprise that we reached half-time level at 0-0.

As the game went on it looked increasingly like one goal would win it or we would need a penalty shoot-out to decide things. The game needed a hero and it got it. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Camen Bhandal. It was his fourth goal of the tournament and what an important one it was.

The game finished 1-0 and GHSFC were crowned Plate winners. A superb comeback after a tough start to the day.

First of all we offer our consolations to AFC Basemen on a fine campaign – they could not have got much closer to the Plate winners' trophy. It was a pleasure to host the team and great to see them at the social.

Huge congratulations go to our 2019 Mallorca Fives Plate champions though – GHSFC. The first of many?
