With 7 teams in each group, 1 team would sit out each round. In Round 1 it was Bar Maruru but they would kick us off in the second round of fixtures having had a chance to size up their opposition from Round 1. They were up against Hellgarve Kraken's – it promised to be a high quality contest.

Bar Maruru were the current holders of the Mallorca Tournament. At our most recent event on the island in September 2018 they drew their opening game (1-1 v Urbansport) but quickly returned to winning ways as 4 consecutive wins saw them win Group A with 13 points out of a possible 15. In the Cup Quarter Finals they saw off Yac Club Reserves 4-0 before getting their revenge on Urbansport in the Semi-Finals (2-1). They set up their first Cup Final and won it in style, 5-0 versus Ecuador 100%. Could it be successive titles in 2019?

Goals were proving to be at a premium at the start of Group B. As they did so in September 2018, Bar Maruru opened up with a draw – 0-0 this time. Hellgarve's Kraken should be content with a point well-earned against the defending champions. They were yet to concede in the tournament.

Game 5 of Group B was to be Inter Balear (Spa) versus Deddington Sea Men (Eng). The Spanish team started off with a point whereas the English team took all 3 points from their opening encounter.

Inter Balear have a rich history in this tournament although this was a much changed squad compared to recent years, in effect it was a completely new team. Although a new team, the players were experienced in these events having played several times before. Tomas Cladera (GK) had a winners medal from 2011 when he played for Policia Local, Lee Baynes had played for several teams (most recently Vila Roca), Augusto Gonzales was a loan signing for 3 Lions FC, Mat O'Connor played for BlueWater Training and Jake McCann had played for Arenal All Stars.

It was in effect a “barbarians” team and they were getting used to each other's playing styles. They were solid at the back but struggling to put it together going forward.

A solitary goal would settle this tie and it was Joe Caulfield who proved to be the hero. His goal meant it was 2 games, 2wins for Deddington Sea Men.

To complete Round 2 we had Neptune Rams versus AFC Basemen.

Neptune Rams had performed well in their first game but it counted for nothing as they slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Portugal's Hellgarve Kraken's. AFC Basemen had made a solid start with a 0-0 draw. Could they kick on and accelerate their tournament challenge?

It certainly started well enough as AFC Basemen made the initial breakthrough. Jack Utting scored their opening goal of the tournament to make it 1-0. It would not quite be enough for all 3 points though. Neptune Rams had a free kick outside the AFC Basemen penalty area. The ball was lay off to the side before Callum Holler hit a thunderbolt from distance that arrowed into the top left hand corner. It was Neptune Rams first goal in Europe and a sensational strike to boot.

For AFC Basemen it was a second draw in as many games. Neptune Rams had their first point on the board.
