We
turned our attentions to the top of the table
as AFC Basemen faced GHSFC. AFC Basemen were
one of three teams locked together on 10 points.
Deddington Sea Men had completed their fixtures
so were unable to add to their tally. AFC Basemen
would be playing here on Pitch B with Hellgarve
Kraken's up next.
A
win for AFC Basemen would guarantee Cup qualification
– either as the second placed team or one of
the top third placed teams. A draw would probably
achieve the same result. A defeat would mean
fourth place and the Plate.
GHSFC
were currently in fifth place and could guarantee
that position with a victory here. They would
be in the Plate competition regardless but the
higher the league position would give them a
(theoretically) more favourable draw in the
knock-out phase.
AFC
Basemen qualified for the Cup on their previous
appearance in Lisbon last year but this year
they would miss out. A 1-0 defeat meant they
fell at the final hurdle. Arjan Chagger was
the hero for GHSFC or the villain from an AFC
Basemen perspective. Snoppy Thind kept his second
clean sheet of the day – a nice way to end the
group campaign.
