Group C began with Deddington Sea Rats of England taking on Policia Local of Spain.

Policia Local come to the 2019 Mallorca Tournament with two eurofootballfives.com tournaments under their belts. They won our very first tournament in the Balearics back in 2011 and then more recently the 2018 Mallorca Veterans in September last year. Back in the Open Age section they were gunning for tournament #3 which would put them joint third on the all time list of eurofootballfives.com winners after CIS Committee (Belarus, 5 wins) and Olympic Phil Babb (England, 4 wins).

Deddington Sea Rats had tasted success themselves in our tournaments with the 2018 Riga Tournament title. Robbie Dwyer from that title winning team was in the Sea Rats squad today. With the game underway it was the Sea Rats who drew first blook – Ollie Hawkins giving his team a 1-0 lead. Policia Local were level at half-time though thanks to a goal from Jose Miguel Gurnel.

The 3 points were up for grabs in the second half and it was the Spanish team who bagged a winner. Selous Nicolau was the man of the moment as he saw off the Sea Rats challenge.

Next up was The Midlanders versus Lanky Londoners.

The Midlanders had intended to compete in last year's tournament but were unable to travel so it was great to see them in action 12 months on. Lanky Londoners were making their third eurofootballfives.com appearance after trips to Barcelona and Lisbon in the previous two seasons. On both occasions they had secured 4th placed finishes in their group.

When the action got going it was defences on top in an evenly contested first half. The two teams reached the break level at 0-0. We were to get goals in the second period though. Matthew Homer had the honour of scoring his side's first goal in Europe as The Midlanders took the lead. Sam Twyman levelled things up for Lanky Londoners and earned his team a 1-1 draw.

Game 3 of Group C saw Red Cow Belgrade taking on Urbansport.

Red Cow Belgrade are one of the most capped teams in the tournament and will make their 8th appearance in eurofootballfives.com competition. Most recently they competed at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament and were drawn in a group that finished both eventual finalists – they did well to finish in third place to qualify for the Plate. They defeated FC Dad 2-1 in the Quarters before a 1-0 loss to FC Shark in the Semis.

Urbansport are experienced themselves as they make their fifth appearance – all in Mallorca. In 2017 they were successful successful at the Mallorca Fives winning the Cup (playing as Valecuatro). At the Mallorca Tournament they won the Plate (playing as their sister squad - Inter Balear). They were unable to repeat that success in their two appearance in 2018 but started off well in 2019.

The Spanish team won this opening contest 3-0 with goals from Yazid Hamadna, Juanito Garcia and Charly Navarro.
