Round 3 started with GHSFC versus Inter Balear. GHSFC had just had the one fixture so far where they had suffered a 2-0 defeat to Deddington Sea Men. Inter Balear had played twice – lost 1, drawn 1. They both needed the points and were seeking their first goals of the tournament.

Whilst we were seeing goals aplenty in Group A and Group C, Group B was proving much tighter. It was a testament to the teams in Group B that they were so closely matched and also strong defensively. It meant that goals when they came were even more valuable.

The two teams were locked together at 0-0 for much of this game and it looked like we might be heading for another deadlocked tie. GHSFC had other ideas though but they left it late. Camen Bhandal was the man who came up with the goods and had the honour of scoring his team's first goal in Europe. Final score, 1-0.

We continued in Round 3 with AFC Basemen versus Bar Maruru.

Bar Maruru made their debut at this tournament 12 months ago. They made a superb start as they defeated the eventual champions (Inter Hoddesdon) 2-0 in their opening game. They went on to win Group A with a 100% record. It was a minor surprise to see them go out in the Cup Semi-Finals, 1-0, to Renshaw. Then came their victory at the 2018 Mallorca Tournament with 7 wins and 1 draw from their 8 games.

With 2 draws to their name so far this was hardly the opponents that AFC Basemen needed in order to try and secure their first victory of the day. However, they got off to the perfect start as Michal Woyton scored early.

Perhaps it was too early as Bar Maruru had time to recover. There was a quick turnaround as Fran Medina Garcia scored two quick goals. Both goals were sublime team passing moves as Bar Maruru looked like they had clicked into gear.

Bar Maruru then boosted their goal difference thanks to Juan Joe Vanrell. Final score, 3-1.

The next game was between Deddington Sea Men and Neptune Rams. Deddington Sea Men were top of Group B at the start of play and a third straight win would see them open up a 5 point lead at the top of the table. Neptune Rams were currently in sixth position.

Deddington draw their teams by lots for each tournament and so the make-up of their individual squads change from tour to tour. It is therefore difficult to compare the history from one tournament to another although they were showing some of the form that made them champions in Riga 12 months ago. They did have one member of that title winning team in the Sea Men squad (Robert Bradford).

Joe Caulfield scored the winning goal in their last match and he opened the scoring in this fixture. 1-0 became 2-0 as Ashley Phillips opened his personal account. James Thornhill then reduced the lead to 2-1 as Neptune Rams got themselves back into the game. Deddington Sea Men then re-established their authority with a well worked corner as Robert Ball stole in at the back to make it 3-1. Game over.
