We began Round 4 with second place Naranjitos hosting fourth place Gosham Rangers. Just 3 points separated the top four teams and 4 points separating the top 5. A Naranjitos win would see them open up a three point gap at the top. Should Gosham Rangers claim victory we would have a three team tie on 7 points at the top.

Naranjitos' group record in Spain read:

2014 Valencia Fives: P4 W2 D1 L1 F15 A8 Points – 7 (3rd)

2014 Barcelona Fives: P4 W1 D1 L2 F8 A5 Points – 4 (3rd)

2015 Barcelona Fives: P4 W2 D1 L1 F8 A7 Points – 7 (2nd)

2016 Barcelona Fives: P7 W7 D0 L0 F21 A3 Points – 21 (1st)

2017 Barcelona Fives: P6 W5 D1 L0 F13 A1 Points – 16 (1st)

As you can see, recently they had been superb. With their 3 games today, they were now unbeaten in 16 games over the last 3 tournaments. In fact, you have to go back to their first group game at the 2015 Barcelona Fives when they last tasted defeat in the group phase (2-3 to North London). It was an unbeaten run of 19 games – could they make it 20?

The quick answer to that is yes. A goal in each half for David Moya Aparicio sealed another victory. There was certainly no shame in Gosham Rangers losing this one. The acquitted themselves well in the context of their opponents. Nevertheless, the defeat hampered their Cup hopes. They still had 1 more game to stake their claim.

Deddington Sea Cats came into this game boosted by securing their first victory in their previous outing. Following defeats in their opening two games (against the top two in the table) they hit back with a 5-2 win last time out. A win here would put them in third place in the table and a very good chance of qualifying for the Cup.

Mamammuu French Team were one point and one position ahead of their opponents at the start of play. They could move level with Ecuador 100% in second place if they could pick-up victory. Arnaud Bizeul was yet to score today but he found his goal-scoring touch in the first half of this game. Not only did he open the scoring but he doubled his team's lead to give the French a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time.

Deddington Sea Cats were not yet out of the game but you felt they needed to score the first goal in the second half to reduce the deficit. Instead it was Mamamuu French Team who extended their lead. David Ruelle made it 3-0 and guaranteed all 3 points for his team.

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was LMH FC versus Ecuador 100%. On paper this looked like an away win. LMH FC were seeking their first points of the day whilst Ecuador 100% were unbeaten with 7 points from a possible 9. The Ecuadorians also had the incentive of needing to win to go back to the top of Group A.

For LMH FC this game must have felt like a bit of déjà vu from their previous fixture - a tight first half followed by plenty of goals in the second period. As it had been in their last game, LMH FC found themselves 1-0 down at the change of ends. A goal for Wimper Gonzales was what divided the two teams.

The second half kicked off with Ecuador 100% hungry for goals and they doubled the lead to 2-0 courtesy of Andres Dorado. LMH FC were back in at 2-1 but Ecuador 100% were 3-1 up thanks to another from Andres Dorado. LMH FC were not giving up though as Johnny Lunn pulled it back to 3-2.

Wimper Gonzales restored the two goal cushion at 4-2 and that seemed to be the goal that broke the resistance. Jose Mosquera and Jon made it 5-2 and 6-2 for good measure. Ecuador 100% moved to the top of the table on goal difference!
