With their first games under their belts it was Round 2 for all the teams in Group A and time to settle into the tournament.

Gosham Rangers competed for the first time at the 2018 Algarve Veterans Tournament. They picked up 4 points from Group A as they qualified for the Plate competition. In the Quarter-Finals they picked up their biggest win of the day, 3-0 versus WEEDS Colts. In the Semi-Finals, a slender 1-0 loss to Dickie Dogs saw them miss out on a European Final by the narrowest of margins.

The English team had enjoyed a winning start to life in Mallorca here in 2019 but now faced a tough challenge. They were up against Ecuador 100% who also had a winning start today and were aiming for a third Cup Final in Mallorca. Jose Mosquera was making his debut for the Ecuadorian team and the young number 12 was impressing for the men in yellow. He scored in Round 1 and he was on target again here. Paul Roman was another man amongst the goals – he scored his third of the day to give Ecuador 100% a 2-0 lead at the break.

There was no way back for Gosham Rangers in the second period and in fact Ecuador 100% extended their lead. Jose Mosquera was on target for the second time in the game as Ecuador 100% ensured they started the tournament with 2 wins from 2.

Next up on Pitch A was Naranjitos versus Deddington Sea Cats. Naranjitos have quite some pedigree in our tournaments as they once went on a run of 12 consecutive wins in the group phase at the Barcelona Fives (Group A, Round 1 in 2016 to Group B, Round 5 in 2017 – inclusive) and 16 games unbeaten in the group phase at Barcelona Fives (Group A, Round 2 in 2015 to Group B, Round 6 in 2017 – inclusive). A solid victory in Round 1 suggested they might be at the start of another such run. In their last 17 eurofootballfives.com games going back to 2017 they had lost just 3.

Deddington had some pedigree too. Both their previous eurofootballfives.com tours had brought success – Plate win at the 2017 Krakow Trophy and Cup win at the 2018 Riga Tournament. They had suffered defeat in their opening fixture today though.

This game proved to be a tight affair in the first period in particular with just one goal separating the two teams. Javier Sanchez Flores scored for the second game running. David Moya Aparico made it 2-0 in the second half and then with the very last touch of the game Javier Sanchez Flores completed a 3-0 victory.

To complete Round 2 we had Mamamuu French Team versus LMH FC. Both teams were looking to avenge first round defeats and ignite their 2019 Mallorca Fives challenge.

2018 saw LMH FC visit the Amsterdam Fives where 2 wins and 3 defeats saw them finish 4th in Group B. The Plate proved to be to their liking (as it had been on previous tours) as a 4-1 win over La Morte O I Gladioli (Hol) and a penalty shoot-out win versus SC Sylt (Ger) saw them reach the Plate Final for the second tour running. A 3-2 victory saw them collect a second Plate title.

These two teams played out an even first half in which just one goal separated the two sides. That goal was scored by Laurent Boulouard for Mamamuu French Team. 1-0 at the break was still 1-0 as we entered the final stages of the game. Could LMH FC find an equalizer? Could Mamamuu French Team make the game safe? Sebastian Hildebrandt almost did the latter in the final minute but he put his chance over the bar. It was a reprieve for LMH FC but they didn't have enough time left to take advantage of it.

It was a vital first win in our tournaments for Mamamuu French Team though. They moved into third place in Group A.
