We began Round 5 with a lot to decide. The winner of the Group A table was up for grabs. The top two had qualified for the Cup but could Gosham Rangers or Mamamuu French Team join them? LMH FC needed points to make the Plate whilst Deddington Sea Cats were not quite safe in the Plate qualification places.

We began the final round of games with Gosham Rangers versus Deddington Sea Cats. Gosham Rangers could still finish third with a win here and defeat for Mamamuu French Team in their final game. They needed a swing in goal difference and to hope that 7 points would see them as one of the two best third placed finishers.

Deddington Sea Cats needed just a point to guarantee their place in the Plate. Defeat would still be ok if they maintained 5th place above LMH FC. If they did slip to 6 th then they would need to hope they were the best of the 6th placed teams to progress.

That would be an academic argument as Deddington Sea Cats stormed to victory here. A first half hat-trick from Joe Thornton put the Sea Cats firmly in control. In the second half he continued to plunder the goals as his team went 5-0 up. Jack Davies scored to make it 6-0 before a Mike Smith consolation for 6-1.

Joe Thornton was to have the final word though as he completed a second half hat-trick and moved onto 11 goals for the tournament.

At the start of play, Naranjitos sat second in the table. They had already qualified for the Cup as even if they lost and slipped to third, their haul of 10 points was enough to qualify as one of the best third placed teams. Naranjitos would be gunning for the title and their third group win in our tournaments.

To win Group A Naranjitos needed to better the result of Ecuador 100%. If both teams had the same result then Naranjitos would need a swing in goal difference in their favour. They were currently +7 to Ecuador 100%'s +10.

Looking at the game from the perspective of LMH FC it was ominous. Naranjitos were unbeaten in 20 group games in our tournaments in Spain. LMH FC had to end this unbeaten streak. They needed a win to move onto 3 points and hope this would see them through as one of the best sixth placed teams.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the league table it was Naranjitos who opened the scoring and it was their current top scorer, David Moya Aparicio, who bagged his sixth goal of the tournament. Javier Sanchez Flores then scored his fourth of the day to give his team a 2-0 lead. In the second period, David Moya Aparicio increased the lead to 3-0 before LMH FC had the final word. Simon Lewis scored a consolation for 3-1.

LMH FC's day (on the pitch at least) was over as hopes of a third successive Plate win were extinguished.

The final thing to wrap up Group A was Mamamuu French Team versus Ecuador 100%. With all the other games completed these two teams knew what they needed to do.

For Ecuador 100%, the equation was simple – win and qualify for the Cup as Group A champions. A draw would mean second place. A five goal defeat would see them slip to third place. Cup qualification was secure though regardless.

For Mamamuu French team, they would finish in third position at worst. A five goal win would see them finish second. Any other win would see them qualify as one of the best third placed teams on 10 points. A draw/defeat would leave them needing Policia Local to lose their final game in Group C to achieve Cup qualification.

On the field of play it was Mamamuu French Team that got off to the ideal start. They lead 1-0 thanks to David Ruelle's second goal in as many games. It got even better when Arnaud Bizeul increased that lead to 2-0. Alfredo Mieles pulled it back to 2-1 before the interval.

In the second half Mamamuu French Team restored their two goal lead as Philippe Arribert opened his personal account for the day. Ecuador 100%'s unbeaten record was in jeopardy but they responded superbly. Wimper Gonzales reduced the deficit to 3-2. Alfredo Mieles then scored his second of the game to rescue a draw for his team.

It was a great game to complete Group A and it ultimately transpired that both teams would progress to the Cup. Congratulations to Naranjitos who topped the table.
