At
the start of play, Naranjitos sat second in
the table. They had already qualified for the
Cup as even if they lost and slipped to third,
their haul of 10 points was enough to qualify
as one of the best third placed teams. Naranjitos
would be gunning for the title and their third
group win in our tournaments.
To
win Group A Naranjitos needed to better the
result of Ecuador 100%. If both teams had the
same result then Naranjitos would need a swing
in goal difference in their favour. They were
currently +7 to Ecuador 100%'s +10.
Looking
at the game from the perspective of LMH FC it
was ominous. Naranjitos were unbeaten in 20
group games in our tournaments in Spain. LMH
FC had to end this unbeaten streak. They needed
a win to move onto 3 points and hope this would
see them through as one of the best sixth placed
teams.
Perhaps
unsurprisingly given the league table it was
Naranjitos who opened the scoring and it was
their current top scorer, David Moya Aparicio,
who bagged his sixth goal of the tournament.
Javier Sanchez Flores then scored his fourth
of the day to give his team a 2-0 lead. In the
second period, David Moya Aparicio increased
the lead to 3-0 before LMH FC had the final
word. Simon Lewis scored a consolation for 3-1.
LMH
FC's day (on the pitch at least) was over as
hopes of a third successive Plate win were extinguished.
