Round 5 began with Deddington Sea Rats versus The Midlanders.

There were numerous permutations for Deddington Sea Rats. A win would secure them Plate football this afternoon and fourth place in Group C. A draw would put them on 4 points and give them Plate football if Red Cow Belgrade failed to win.If they drew and Red Cow Belgrade won they would finish sixth and then need to hope they were the best sixth placed team. If the Sea Rats lost they would qualify for the Plate if Red Cow Belgrade failed to win. If Red Cow Belgrade won though, the Sea Rats would be eliminated.

The Midlanders currently occupied fourth position and had their fate in their own hands. A win or draw would see them secure fourth position. A win, combined with a Policia Local defeat would see them finish as high as third but the haul of 6 points would not be enough for the Cup. Defeat, combined with a Red Cow Belgrade win and a 3 goal swing in goal difference would see The Midlanders slip to sixth and eliminated.

The Midlanders were still looking for their first win which seemed incredible as they were the only team to take points from Urbansport so far. They took the lead in this one as Matthew Homer continued his fine goalscoring form with his fifth strike of the day. In the second half Homer made it 2 for the game and 6 for the tournament for 2-0. Andrew Lowe added a third and it was all over. Final score, 3-0.

The result above meant that Policia Local had slipped to fourth position in the table and that is where they would stay if they lost their final group game. If they drew this final game they would finish third but be the third best third placed team and therefore progress to the Plate. If they won, they would be the second best third placed team and qualify for the Cup.

Policia Local's opponents would be Red Cow Belgrade. As things stood, Red Cow Belgrade were facing elimination so this would be last chance saloon for them. Only a win would be good enough to see them climb up into fifth place and qualify for the Plate.

History was on the side of Policia Local having qualified for the Cup 7 times out of 8 in our tournaments. Red Cow Belgrade had qualified for the Plate on 5 of their 7 previous campaigns.

History didn't matter here though as Daz Bray made a name for himself with 2 goals. There was a clean sheet for Dom Leonard in goal as Red Cow Belgrade secured the 2-0 win they needed. Red Cow Belgrade had only been eliminated at the group phase once in our tournaments (2014 Algarve Open). They left it late today but would play knock-out football this afternoon.

Into Game 15 of Group C and we had a fitting game for the climax of the group fixtures. It was Urbansport versus Lanky Londoners. It was the top two teams in Group C with an identical record of 3 wins and 1 draw from their 4 games. Both had already qualified for the Cup. This game was a straight shoot-out for the Group C win and, in theory, a preferential draw in the Cup knock-out draw.

The onus was on Lanky Londoners to try and get the win as should this tie end all square it would be Urbansport who would win Group C courtesy of their superior goal difference. We reached half-time with the scores level at 0-0 and Urbansport were sitting pretty at the summit of the table.

The game would not end goal-less though as Juanito Garcia scored for the fifth consecutive game to give Urbansport a 1-0 lead. It meant Lanky Londoners now needed to score once without reply to maintain their unbeaten record and twice without reply to win Group C.

The Urbansport defence proved to be impenetrable though as they held on to see out the 1-0 win. Many congratulations to them on topping the group. Well done also to Lanky Londoners for a fine morning's work as they progressed to the Cup.
