We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with teams representing Hungary, England (2) and Slovakia still in with a chance of silverware.

The first Semi-Final would see Shrewsbury Townsend versus GSF Drunkerz. Shrewsbury Townsend had so far won 2, drawn 3 and lost 1 today with 10 goals for and 6 against. GSF Drunkerz had won 4, lost 2 with 14 goals for and 5 against.

Neither team had conceded in the preceding round and both defences seemed to be dominant in this game too. It was 0-0 at half-time and Shrewsbury Townsend were heading towards their third successive clean sheet. GSF Drunkerz were unable to penetrate the Shrewsbury Townsend defence and we had a second 0-0 draw in a row for the English team. It was penalty time again!

Shrewsbury Townsend looked to stick with their winning formula from the Quarter-Final and it began well with Joe Croft scoring the opening penalty. GSF Drunkerz converted their opening penalty too for 1-1. Pat Staunton then saw his penalty saved by Miroslav Saga. Saga then became the second goalkeeper in the shoot-out to score to make it advantage Slovakia at 2-1. Tom Penn then converted his penalty to make it 2-2 and force GSF Drunkerz to see it out. There was a reprieve for Shrewsbury Townsend as the Slovakian team missed a golden opportunity to go through.

Miroslav Saga became the hero again when he saved from Matt Horne and, with a second chance to close the game out, GSF Drunkerz then made no mistake. They had won the penalty shoot-out 3-2 and were through to the Plate Final.

The second Semi-Final was Budapest Celtic Lions versus Murder on Zidanes Floor. Who could join GSF Drunkerz in the Plate Final?

Murder on Zidanes Floor started off the brighter and established a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Tom Richardson and Dan Brayson. Lewis Kelly scored the goal, his sixth for the tournament, for Budapest Celtic Lions that kept them in the tie.

The second half remained 2-1 for long spells but then Lewis Kelly popped up to make it 2-2 and send the game into a penalty shoot-out. Murder on Zidane Floor had already seen off the Budapest Celtic Tigers on penalties. Could they dispatch the Lions in similar fashion?

After the first round of penalties Joe McCann (Budapest Celtic Lions) and Tom Richardson (Murder on Zidanes Floor) both scored and it was 1-1. The second round of penalties saw Timo Hussmann and Dan Brayson respectively score for 2-2. In the last round of regulation penalties though there was a miss for Murder on Zidane Floor and the Lions, unlike the Tigers in the QF, did not give them a second chance – David Lessman converting the winning penalty.
