Group B began with Los Langeros versus Lads on Tour.

Los Langeros of Ireland joined us for the first time in Valencia 2012 although some members of the squad also participated in the 2012 Barcelona Fives as part of a stag weekend. In Barcelona they sported some spectacular hangovers that hindered the progress on the pitch with the two teams Doofies Dynamos and Rick's Trick United each finishing 5th in their respective groups. In Valencia they finished 5th (in 6 team groups this time) in a tough group and made the Trophy Semi-Finals before going down at the hands of FC Dad. At the 2013 Budapest Fives they had two teams on a stag weekend again and The Milf Hunters were the pick of the squads finishing 5th in their group before a Plate QF defeat.

We'll introduce Lads on Tour in more detail in Round 2 but, in brief, this was their first overseas tour with eurofootballfives.com and it was a tough opening game on foreign soil as Los Langeros defeated them 4-1.

The goals for Los Langeros came from Colin Hegarty with a hat-trick who was ably assisted by Kevin Burke's strike. There was a first European goal for James Green for Lads on Tour although it was to be a mere consolation.

Match 2 saw The El Dude Brothers versus Budapest Celtic Lions.

The El Dude Brothers made their debut at the 2013 Berlin Fives and were unlucky to draw a very tough group. They finished bottom despite just two defeats and they drew 2-2 against the eventual Runners-Up and 2009 Barca Fives winners Luminy Wolves of France. They'll be hoping for a kinder draw here in Bratislava.

We'll touch more on Budapest Celtic Lions in due course but suffice it to say it was not an easy opening fixture for The El Dude Brothers here. It was a steady start in the opening period as the two teams went into the break all square at 0-0.

In the second half, Budapest Celtic Lions maneuvered themselves into a winning position but it was a narrow win. Alistair McIntyre scored the first of the day for The El Dude Brothers but strikes from Lewis Kelly and Peter Roscoe earned all three points for the team that travelled in from Hungary.

The last two teams to take to the field were Slovakia and Shrewsbury Townsend. The rest of the teams in the tournament would be relieved to hear that Slovakia was not actually the national team but a local team proudly taking the name…this is an amateur tournament after all.

Shrewsbury Townsend were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance after a very impressive debut at the 2012 Berlin Fives. They finished unbeaten and in second place in their group behind eventual champions Rigford Seahawks. They qualified for the Cup defeating DHL Prague White 3-1 in the Quarter-Finals, Bafta Boys on penalties after a 2-2 daw in the Semi-Finals before a narrow 2-1 loss in the final to Rigford Seahawks. Could they go one step further in Bratislava?

Both teams started well and when the referee blew for half-time it was honours even at 1-1 as Filip Simek and Matt Horne exchanged goals. In the second period Filip Simek and Jamie Mackie exchanged goals to turn 1-1 into 2-2 and when the referee drew the game to a close at full-time it did indeed finish all square. Only time would tell if this was one point gained or two points dropped for these two teams.
