The
second final of the day would see GSF Drunkerz
versus Budapest Celtic Lions. With seven games
of football already under their belt the two teams
would need to summon one last burst of energy
to ensure they would be picking up winners and
not runners-up medals in the presentation.
GSF
Drunkerz had the chance to become the second Slovakian
winners today after Ziar Crew's success in the
Trophy competition.
Budapest
Celtic were used to these pressure situations
and had been in a number of eurofootballfives.com
finals. The most notable success was the Lions
squad lifting the 2013 Krakow Trophy Cup title.
There was also two Cup Finals (sadly both defeats)
for the Tigers at the 2011 and 2012 Budapest Fives.
Then, this season there was two losing Plate Finals
at the 2014 Budapest Fives (Panthers) and the
2014 Valencia Fives where the Lions lost to Saipan
FC. Could they make it a second success here in
Bratislava?
This
Plate competition was notable so far by how close
the games were – 4 of the 6 had been drawn and
gone to penalty shoot-outs. The Plate Final continued
this trend despite the best efforts of the teams
in normal time. The first half was tied at a goal
each with sweeper-keeper Miroslav Saga scoring
his second of the tournament for the home team
and Lewis Kelly scoring for the away side. The
second half also saw a goal each as Jakub Mihaliks
fourth of the tournament for GSF Dunkerz was equaled
by Lewis Kelly's ninth goal of the day. Final
score, 2-2.
Penalty
shoot-out time again. It was GSF Drunkerz to strike
first and they took the initiative to make it
1-0 before David Lessman, scorer of the decisive
penalty in the Semi-Final, levelled it up at 1-1.
Saga the goalkeeper became the goalscorer to put
GSF Drunkerz 2-1 up and then the first miss. Football
can be a cruel game as it was Lewis Kelly, the
man whose goals had done so much for the Lions
today, who saw his effort saved by the out-stretched
boot of Saga. GSF Drunkerz had a penalty to win
it but saw a well hit strike come bouncing back
of the corner of post and cross-bar and out. The
Lions had a lifeline and goalkeeper Timo Hussman
gratefully took it.
So,
2-2 at full-time and 2-2 after regulation penalties.
We were into sudden-death penalty time and it
was GSF Drunkerz to continue and get back to goal-scoring
ways. Peter Roscoe was equal to it for the Lions
and it was 3-3. GSF Drunkerz made it 4-3 before
Joe McCann stepped up. He scored a penalty in
the Semi-Final shoot-out and he scored another
one here for 4-4. GSF Drunkerz rattled in their
next one for 5-4 and a confident penalty from
Anouzk Liechti made it 5-5.
GSF
Drunkerz were relentless as they made it 6-5 and
it was the turn of Yogi Agustadwi with three goals
in the tournament so far today. It was agony for
him but joy for GSF Drunkerz as Saga threw himself
to the bottom right hand corner and knock the
ball clear. GSF Drunkerz had won it in epic style.
We
offer our consolations to Budapest Celtic Lions
on a fine campaign – they could not have got any
closer to the winners trophy. Our 2014 Bratislava
Fives Plate Winners though – GSF Drunkerz!
