Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 5. Match 10 of the group was The Never Tarps against GSF Drunkerz. Both teams came into the game with an upward curve of form with The Never Tarps winning their last fixture and GSF Drunkerz winning their last two.

GSF Drunkerz had a chance to go joint top if they could eek out a victory and they looked well set for that when Peter Tatar put them 1-0 up. The goal meant that since GSF Drunkerz had lost their opening game they had now scored 8 goals without conceding.

Make that 10 goals without reply as Peter Tatar Michal Casnocha made it 2-0 and 3-0 in order to claim their third successive victory. GSF Drunkerz were on the charge and looking good.

The result left The Never Tarps in fifth position and hopes of Cup qualification extinguished although the Plate competition was still a viable option for them.

Shahs of Sunset had just seen GSF Drunkerz join them at the top of the table on 9 points although they did have a game in hand. That game was next on Pitch C as they took on Budapest Celtic Tigers.

Budapest Celtic Tigers had started off well today with a win but two successive defeats had left them in the lower reaches of the table and the last thing they needed now was an encounter with the league leaders. Shahs of Sunset had a 100% record scoring 10 goals and conceding just one in the process.

Budapest Celtic Tigers put in a superb performance in the opening period and more than held their own against the Shahs. The teams turned round level at 0-0. After the break it was to get even better for Budapest Celtic Tigers as Peti Hegedus scored a massive goal in the context of Group C.

It was a goal that Budapest Celtic Tigers were unable to recover from and their winning record was gone. The result blew the group wide open and meant we had two teams on 9 points and two teams chasing on six points……..Game On!

One of those teams on six points had the opportunity to make it a three-team tie at the top of Group C in the final match of Round 4. Fritzl Palace would meet Rat Goblins who were propping up the table but did now have a goal under their belts.

Fritzl Palace had just tasted defeat for the first time but they had a huge incentive to go and claim win number three to put them on top of the pile. They started off like a team possessed as Ryan Rook scored two more to put them in control. Mark McEwan opened up his own personal account to make it 3-0 and it was only half-time.

With it now looking certain that we would have three teams on 9 points with one round of fixtures to go, goal difference was going to be a potentially decisive factor in the final reckonings. The Fritzl Palace hunt for goals continued with McEwan grabbing his second of the game and Jonathan Wood also scoring his first of the day.

Rat Goblins prevented further damage and the final score was 5-0 to Fritzl Palace. It was a result that moved them into second place and just one goal behind Shahs of Sunset on goal difference. Fritzl Palace were +8, Shahs of Sunaset +9 with GSF Drunkerz breathing over their shoulders on +7.
