The first game of Round 2 saw Budapest Celtic Lions taking on Los Langeros. We promised a more full introduction on the Lions in the last round and here it is…

Budapest Celtic entered the eurofootballfives.com fold in 2011 on home soil at the 2011 Budapest Fives with two squads – the most successful of their teams (the “Tigers” squad) lost on penalties in the Cup Final. They made a bid for glory at the 2012 Barcelona Fives and 2012 Budapest Fives. In Barcelona they had 2 teams reach the Cup Semi-Finals but both the Lions and Pumas squads missed out on the Final on penalties and Golden Goal respectively. In Budapest that year they came very close again with the Tigers squad getting to the Cup Final but again settling for Runners-Up medals as Romania's ABC United took the winning trophy. The 2013 Budapest Fives wasn't too successful with all 3 of their teams crashing out in the QFs (1 Plate, 2 Cup) but success wasn't too far away as they claimed their maiden title in the 2013 Krakow Trophy! Since that win, they embarked on a stag weekend to the 2014 Valencia Fives finishing 2 nd in the Plate competition. Their most recent performance was at the 2014 Budapest Fives where they entered 4 squads – the most successful was the Lions squad reaching the Cup Semi-Finals before bowing out to CIS. There was another Plate Runners-Up finish for them as the Panthers lost 3-2 in the Plate Final to FC Radbroke.

The Lions and Los Langeros had both kicked off with a victory here in Bratislava and were looking for a second victory. They had history as they met in the 2013 Budapest Fives and drew 0-0.

Here in Bratislava there were to be goals and there was to be a winner as goals from Yogi Agustadwi and Lewis Kelly outgunned Colin Hegarty's goal for Los Langeros in a 2-1 win.

In 2013, The El Dude Brothers began their campaign with two narrow defeats (1-0 to DHL Prague Red and 1-0 to Stadtrandkicker). Today in Bratislava they also began with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Budapest Celtic Lions and they would hope to prevent history striking twice by avoiding defeat.

In The El Dude Brothers way stood local team Slovakia. Slovakia had opened up with a solid 2-2 victory and were looking to build on that with a victory. We reached half-time all square at 0-0. Both teams have been level at half-time in their opening games (0-0 for The El Dude Brothers, 1-1 for Slovakia) – could either team kick on and secure a victory?

The answer was yes and the deadlock was broken by Adam Kovac of Slovakia. It got even better for the home team when Kovac doubled the advantage before Martin Cano put the icing on the cake for a 3-0 victory.

It was a good start to the tournament for Slovakia but The El Dude Brothers had work to do.

The final game of Round 2 was Shrewsbury Townsend versus Lads on Tour.

Lads on Tour as we touched upon earlier were making their European debut but not their eurofootballfives.com debut. In 2010 we held a charity tournament in aid of The Prostate Cancer Charity and Lads on Tour made the trip to Manchester to compete. They finished 5th in their 6-team group and narrowly missed out on the knock-out phase. We wish them luck on their first overseas tour.

They already had their first European goal under their belt but sadly for them that came in a losing cause. In their second fixture they were to fall behind again as Shrewsbury Townsend went 1-0 up early on in their pursuit of three points.

Shrewsbury Townsend had started with a draw and were on course for victory here as they showed their opponents no mercy after the break. They eased away from their opponents as they rattled up a 5-0 victory.

There was a hat-trick for James Mackie and a brace for Tom Penn as Shrewsbury Townsend were positioned healthily in second place in the table.
