Group C continued with St Paul's College Old Boys against Return of the Dancing Horses. Both teams had started off with a win so could they continue their promising starts?

St Paul's College Old Boys made their debut last year at our Lisbon Veterans Tournament finishing 3rd in the 6 team group to progress to the knock-out phase. They were knocked out in the Semi-Finals by Funsport B of Portugal. I think it was with a little trepidation that they entered our “Open Age” tournament here in Amsterdam but they had settled in well in Round 1.

Round 2 and Return of the Dancing Horses III were proving to be tougher opposition though as St Paul's College Old Boys trailed to a Craig Harrison goal by half-time – it was already his fourth of the tournament.

After the break Return of the Dancing Horses III wrapped up their second win of the day as Liam Apicella, scoring for the second game running, made it 2-0.

Next up on Pitch C was Melee FC versus Bede FC. Bede FC made their debut in the 2011 Barcelona Fives and picked up a first European victory with a 2-1 victory over eventual Plate Winners, Bristol Bridge. Other results did not quite go their way and did not reward their performances as they were unlucky to finish 5th on goal difference – going through to the Wooden Spoon Semi-Finals going down to Stamford AC. They played in the 2012 Algarve Open finishing 4th in their group before a narrow 2-1 exit in the Plate Quarter-Finals to Goals Aloud of Wales. A return to the Algarve Open in 2013 saw them struggle in the group phase finishing 6th. In the Wooden Spoon Final they lost on Golden Goal to Norton Old Boys.

Their 4th appearance in Amsterdam had certainly dealt them a tough start to the day with Return of the Dancing Horses III and now Melee FC. Melee FC had already kicked off the tournament with a 7-0 win and they showed no signs of letting up as Chris Pilsbury and Kevin Lewis gave them a 2-0 half-time lead.

After the turnaround Jack Dell turned 2-0 into 3-0 and Melee FC's second victory of the day was in the bag. Bede FC would hope that the fixtures would get easier!

Playing Against Cancer FC and ADP Netherlands was an all Dutch encounter and a chance for these two teams to bounce back from opening game defeat.

Playing Against Cancer FC is a football team who plays to raise money for the fight against child cancer , to help those effected by the terrible disease and their families, close friends and carers who deal with cancer every day. It was our great honour to see them at the tournament and hopefully we can help them raise money at our future tournaments.

Back to the action on the pitch and it was ADP Netherlands who were showing great resilience in coming back from a 2-0 defeat to lead this fixture. It was a sensational reversal of fortune as they secured an 8-1 victory. Kevin Pieters was the chief architect of the victory with five goals to his name. There was also a double for Remco Nijland and a goal for Michiel Nagelhout.

There was a consolation for Playing Against Cancer FC as Van de Steeg grabbed their first goal of the tournament.
