Plate
Semi-Final time and things were getting interesting.
First up was Dickie Dogs versus Old Bromleians.
Dickie Dogs had made the knock-out phase of our
Veterans Tournament for the first time although
they had been here before in our regular tournaments.
In 2010 they made the Cup QF at the Valencia Fives
and in 2012 the Plate QF at the Budapest Fives.
A win here could secure their first European Final
with eurofootballfives.com.
For
Old Bromleians on debut, every step they took
was another step into unchartered territory and
another first. Due to Sitges withdrawal in Group
B they'd had a little time to wait since their
previous game which is never good for the limbs
to stiffen up and maybe they were caught a little
cold as a result. Dickie Dogs wasted no time at
all in establishing a 3-0 first half lead.
With
the wind beneath their wings (or hind quarters
may be) the Dogs never let the ascendency slip
and they showed no mercy to their opponents. In
the end, they ran out 7-0 victors with a hat-trick
for Justin Lebbon (flying in from Canada for the
event), two for Paul Haezewindt, a fourth of the
day for Neil Ainger (or Scholes as the referee
recorded it) and a first of the tournament for
Caspar Clark.
It
was the end of the tournament for Old Bromleians
but not the end of the tour. We truly hope they
enjoyed their first eurofootballfives.com experience
and would like to join us at the next edition
of the Veterans tournament – in the Algarve.
