Dickie Dogs (Eng)

Norton Old Boys (Eng)

Plate Semi-Final time and things were getting interesting. First up was Dickie Dogs versus Old Bromleians. Dickie Dogs had made the knock-out phase of our Veterans Tournament for the first time although they had been here before in our regular tournaments. In 2010 they made the Cup QF at the Valencia Fives and in 2012 the Plate QF at the Budapest Fives. A win here could secure their first European Final with

For Old Bromleians on debut, every step they took was another step into unchartered territory and another first. Due to Sitges withdrawal in Group B they'd had a little time to wait since their previous game which is never good for the limbs to stiffen up and maybe they were caught a little cold as a result. Dickie Dogs wasted no time at all in establishing a 3-0 first half lead.

With the wind beneath their wings (or hind quarters may be) the Dogs never let the ascendency slip and they showed no mercy to their opponents. In the end, they ran out 7-0 victors with a hat-trick for Justin Lebbon (flying in from Canada for the event), two for Paul Haezewindt, a fourth of the day for Neil Ainger (or Scholes as the referee recorded it) and a first of the tournament for Caspar Clark.

It was the end of the tournament for Old Bromleians but not the end of the tour. We truly hope they enjoyed their first experience and would like to join us at the next edition of the Veterans tournament – in the Algarve.

The second Semi-Final was an encounter between €agles 3:36 and Norton Old Boys. The two teams both knew how to win at this level with €agles 3:36 collecting the Plate win at the 2010 Krakow Trophy and the 2011 Algarve Open. Norton Old Boys returned home with the Plate trophy here in Mallorca back in 2012.

With just the one defeat today and 7 points in the group compared to their opponents 3, €agles 3:36 entered the game as favourites. In the first half there looked very little between the two teams and there was stalemate going into half-time, 0-0.

After the break €agles 3:36 emerged winners as goals from Jon Spooner (2) and Oliver Luchoomun outgunned Mark Paget's strike for Norton Old Boys. It was Mark Paget's 5 th goal of the tournament – he must really like Mallorca as he scored 8 here back in 2012. So, with 13 goals in 2 tournaments he would no longer be able add to his tally as Norton Old Boys were out. The lads have already been in touch re Algarve 2015 and it goes without seeing it will be our pleasure to see them for another European adventure.

€agles 3:36 had another Plate Final to prepare for.
