Group B began with Cheesecake FC of England versus Brioche of Spain on debut. We're going to give Cheesecake FC a big build-up as they have quite a eurofootballfives.com history.

They made their debut in the 2010 Prague Masters in a field which also featured 3 past winners – Lozenetz City (Bul), Kehar Club (Cze) and Olympic Phil Babb (Eng). They met the latter in the Cup Semi-Finals and after a fine 3-3 draw went out on penalties. They then played in the 2011 Algarve Open which also featured 3 past winners – Goldsmith Williams and 9 Nana Budds (both UK) and Dutch side and defending champions Athletico Do Hollande. They met the latter in an epic final in front of a great crowd and sensational effort – unfortunately for them they were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline.

In 2012 they were here in the Mallorca Tournament which had 5 previous winners and they went out to the winners again with a Cup Semi-Final defeat to Cosegur Balear. In the 2013 Berlin Fives this phenomenon continued with a Cup Semi-Final defeat to Romania's ABC United. They did also play in the 2013 Mallorca Tournament with an injury ravaged team following their Berlin exploits – as a result they had their weakest campaign to date missing out on Cup qualification for the first time but picking up Plate Runners-Up medals. Will they return to full strength for the 2014 Mallorca Tournament?

It certainly looked that way as they swept aside Brioche 6-2 thanks to four goals from Kevin Raphael, one from Justin Rees and another from Mark Nordenfeldt. Pedro Sanchez Lopez and David Bosch scored consolations for the Spanish side.

Match 2 saw Taylor's Tigers take on Universidad Palma. Both teams were on debut and had a blank canvas to paint their footballing prowess on. Universidad Palma were Mallorca based representing Spain and Taylor's Tigers were one of three teams celebrating Sam Taylor's stag weekend. How's last night's hangover lads?

We imagine Taylor's Tigers preparations were probably not ideal – we very much doubt they were tucked up in bed by 8pm with a hot cup of cocoa and the alarm set for a morning jog to warm-up for the day. Maybe this lead to a bit of a hammering in their opening fixture as Universidad Palma hit 7 in the first half alone before going on to complete a 10-0 rout.

The main architects of their downfall were Rafita (3) and Mariano Llamas (4) with Hector Montilla Roca, Carlos Duram and Daniel Ribero all contributing.

The final team in Group B to start their challenge was Kazbar FC and they may not have wanted to after they'd seen their opponents, Cheesecake FC, so dominant in their opening game.

Kazbar FC are the sister squad of Kazakhstan FC and debuted in the 2012 Barcelona Fives where a group record of 1 win, 1 draw, 2 defeats saw them finish 4th in their group and qualify for the Plate competition. In the Plate Quarter-Finals they bowed out 3-1 to Bozeat All Stars. Mallorca 2014 will be their second foray into Europe although many of the squad have competed here for Kazakhstan FC before.

Cheesecake FC had started the tournament in fine form and showed no signs of letting that form dip as they put Kazbar FC to the sword. Kevin Raphael got the ball rolling as he added a brace to his four goals in the opening game before Ben Woods made it 3-0….it was half-time.

After the break Mark Nordenfelt made it 4-0, Justin Rees added to his tally for the day and Mark Hignett completed the scoring in a 6-0 win.

Brioche would start their road to recovery against Taylor's Tigers after being hit for six by Cheesecake FC. The two teams were currently at the foot of the embryonic table with no points to their name – now was the opportunity to put some points on the board.

Taylor's Tigers played better and the scoreline at half-time in this one was 0-0 – a significant improvement on being 7-0 down! In the second half though the frailties of the opening fixture returned as Brioche found their form and rhythm. Diego Iniesta (any relation?) opened the scoring before it turned into the Jose Garcia Guileen Garcia show as he scored four quickfire goals to sink Taylor's Tigers.

For Brioche it was a welcome victory and their campaign was now underway. For Taylor's Tigers they had improved from a 10-0 loss to a 5-0 loss. They were twice as good in the second game (or half as bad as someone cruelly commented….not us by the way).

Next up was Universidad Palma against Kazbar FC. Kazbar FC had been a really tough opening fixture list to this tournament – Cheesecake FC and now Universidad Palma. Those teams had recorded wins of 6-2, 6-0 and 10-0 in their opening games. Kazbar FC….we wish you luck!

Maybe they didn't need luck as they played well and were much improved in this fixture. When the first half drew to a close there was very little difference between the two teams and the Spanish held a slender 1-0 lead. Mariano Llamas scored the goal that gave them the advantage.

Kazbar FC were unable to get back on level terms after the interval and actually slipped further behind when Rafita made it 2-0. Daniel Ribeiro plumped the pillow to give them a healthy cushion as he scored to make it 3-0 and Universidad Palma claimed their second three points of the day.

Already it was looking like there was two clear candidates for Cup qualification in Group B. The other three looked like they would be fighting for the two Plate places.
