The
2014 Veterans Tournament Plate Final would be
contested by Dickie Dogs and €agles 3:36. In only
our second Veterans tournament this would be our
first Plate competition….there was a chance for
history to be made for whoever won the inaugural
Plate trophy.
€agles
3:36 were no strangers to eurofootballfives.com
finals and this was their third. On both previous
occasions they had emerged victorious so it was
some task that lay ahead for the Dickie Dogs.
The legendary CSF currently held the record of
most Plate victories in our history with four
- €agles 3:36 had the chance to move within one
win of this record.
On
today's form there was very little to differentiate
the two teams. Dickie Dogs had 2 wins, 2 draws
and just the loss to their name. They'd scored
10 goals, conceded 5 and kept 3 clean sheets in
their five games to date. For €agles 3:36, it
was 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat with 12 goals
for and 7 conceded with one clean sheet. Both
teams had finished 3 rd in their group.
With
the game underway we were treated to an open and
entertaining first half with saw Richard Parsons
emerge as the hero for €agles 3:36. He scored
a wonder volley and added a second with a calm
side foot to put his team 2-0 up. A captain's
goal for Dickie Dogs' Ian Hall reduced the deficit.
So
half-time and it was 2-1. Who could summon up
that one last push for victory? The onus was on
Dickie Dogs with time running out on the day's
play but whereas we had plenty of goals to enjoy
in the first period the second half settled down
and ultimately proved goal-less as €agles 3:36
held on to claim their 3 rd Plate title in 4 eurofootballfives.com
tournaments.
For
Dickie Dogs it was disappointment to fall just
short but it had been a great day for them (injury
to Mark Bee aside). For now they had to contend
with Runners-Up medals but maybe it will be winners
medals and trophies waiting for them next time.
