We were at the 2014 Mallorca Tournament Cup Semi-Finals stage and from the 20 teams who started the day we were down to the final 4. There were still 2 different nationalities in with a chance of victory and with one all-Spanish Semi-Final and one all-English Semi-Final we knew the Cup Final would be England versus Spain. However, which teams could progress to represent their nation in that Final?

First up was Palma Select against Universidad Palma. The “home” team carried a record of 3 wins, 2 draws and no defeats into this Semi-Final. They had scored 10 goals along the way and conceded just 3. The “away” team had 3 wins, 1 draw (winning on penatlies) and 1 defeat to show for their efforts. They had scored 22 goals up to this point and conceded 5. Could the superior firepower send Universidad Palma into their first Cup Final?

If they were to progress they would need to summon up all that goalscoring prowess as they found themselves 2-0 down by half-time as Misho Gerchev and Stoyko Dimitrov had put Palma Select in charge. After the break Universidad Palma hit back through Hector Montilla Roca but it was too little too late as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat.

It was the end of the road for Universidad Palma today but it was an impressive performance. Palma Select had a Cup Final to prepare for.

So, who would take their place in the Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were Cheesecake FC against Taylor's Terriers.

Cheesecake had so far been amazing. They had scored 26 goals and conceded just 4 – they had won their group with a 100% record and had recorded their 6th consecutive Quarter-Final win in eurofootballfives.com tournaments. Their Semi-Final record was a bit more even with 3 defeats (1 via penalties) and 2 victories most notoriously in the 2011 Algarve Open Cup competition.

Taylor's Terriers were writing their own records into the history books today and with 4 wins in 5 games on debut were looking strong. This could well be their toughest test yet but it didn't seem to faze them as they took a 1-0 first-half lead through Ben Soanes. In the Quarter-Finals this had been enough to see them through to the next round. Cheesecake FC had other ideas though as Kevin Raphael's 11th of the day levelled things up at 1-1 after the break. Mark Hignett then added a 2nd for Cheesecake FC as he dealt the winning blow. Final score, 2-1.

For Taylor's Terriers the tournament was over but they should reflect on a highly impressive performance upon debut. Factor in that they were competing whilst on a stag weekend gives added value to their performance. It was also our pleasure to see all the “Taylor” squads at the post-tournament social and we trust they had a good night and a great weekend. Thank you for supporting the tournament.
