Round 3 started with an important fixture at both ends of the table between Con Bun and Booka Juniors. The Spanish team needed to start winning with a place in the Plate their most realistic goal. For Booka Juniors they needed to maintain their 100% start to the tournament to keep the pressure on at the summit of Group C.

For Booka Juniors any kind of positive result would put them top but a win would really put the pressure on Taylor's Terriers. They didn't really need any help the way they started today but they got a helping hand from a Con Bun own goal in the opening period and it was Booka Juniors who lead 1-0 at half-time.

It was an improved performance for the Spanish team but they were still trailing and their task became even more difficult after the break when a left foot beauty from Jamie Roberts doubled their lead. Final score, 2-0.

Booka Juniors progress marched on though as they now had 3 wins from 3 games.

The next scheduled fixture was Whiteley FC versus Waxus. Waxus had stuggled a little so far today but with another game to come after this a good result here could well change their fortunes for the day. Whiteley FC had played three good halves of football but a poor fourth halve had meant they were a little off the pace at the top – a win here would put them back in the mix for Cup qualification.

Waxus had so far been disappointing but they managed to turn their fortunes and performance around in this game. They looked like a team reborn as they hit the front early and never looked back. Nelson Astrada set them on their way with two first half goals.

After the break Pedro Escudero Monserrat increased the lead from 2-0 to 3-0. It went from bad to worse for Whiteley FC when Sergio Sanz Mellon made it 4-0 before a second from Monserrat put the icing on a 5-0 cake.

The result meant that Waxus joined Whiteley FC on 3 points in mid-table and were upwardly mobile. Whiteley FC were now in a battle for Plate qualification.

There were still two teams in Group C with a 100% record – Booka Juniors 3 wins from 3 games and Taylor's Terriers 2 wins from 2 games. They met in a top of the table clash in our next fixture.

For Booka Juniors it was a final game to flex their muscle and a win would assure them the Group C title. A draw would keep things going down to the wire and a defeat would leave Taylor's Terriers needing just a point from their final game to win the title for themselves.

We expected a close game and it did not disappoint in the opening half as the teams shared the two goals scored – 1-1 at the break. In the second half the pendulum swung in favour of Booka Juniors as they scored 3 of the 4 goals to secure a 4-2 win. Will Abbs scored both for Taylor's Terriers in what proved to be a losing cause. Michael Meredith, Simon Crowther (2) and Daniel Cooke were the match winners for Booka Juniors.

The result meant that Booka Juniors would qualify for the Cup as Group C champions and with a 100% record – their best performance in a eurofootballfives.com group stage to date. For Taylor's Terriers a defeat was obviously disappointing but not the end of the world. They were still very much favourites to join Booka Juniors in the Cup should they secure at least a point in their final fixture.

Con Bun met Waxus in Game 9 of Group C. The two teams only had one win to show between them so far as they had struggled to cope with the travelling English teams. Con Bun were rock bottom and Waxus were in third courtesy of goal difference. Neither team could make the Cup but the two places in the Plate competition were very much still to be decided.

Waxus only needed a point to book their place in the Plate whereas Con Bun had to win to make it a three-team tie on three points and leave it down to goal difference (although Whiteley FC would have a game in hand).

In the first half Con Bun lead by the odd goal in three as a double for Adrian put them in the ascendency. A goal for Cristian kept Waxus in the hunt. There was to be no further addition to the score after the break as Con Bun completed their first win of the day.

The margin of victory meant that Waxus remained in third over Con Bun so would indeed go through to the Plate despite defeat. Con Bun currently moved into fourth – temporarily at least.

So, all that left us with was Whiteley FC against Taylor's Terriers to end proceedings in Group C. Taylor's Terriers had a free game in a sense as they could finish no worse or better than 2nd but with Cup qualification assured it would be great to get back to winning ways going into the knockout phase. Whiteley FC had much more to play for as they needed a positive result to move off the bottom and into the Plate places. They could capture third place with a point or a victory.

Whiteley FC's task would not be an easy one but it was one they applied themselves to very well. We reached the break level at 1-1 as goals from Chris Nobbs (Taylor's Terriers) and Adam Wood (Whiteley FC) cancelled each other out. If things stayed this way Whiteley FC would go through.

The situation changed for the worse though when Will Abbs put Taylor's Terriers 2-1 up. Whiteley FC now had to score again or it would be a place in the Wooden Spoon for them. An equalizing goal would prove elusive as Taylor's Terriers saw the game out for their third victory of the day.
