We
arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we
would shortly see eight teams reduced to four
teams. The first two teams to do battle were Kazakhstan
FC and Kazbar FC in what was to be an intriguing
tie.
The
two teams came from the same footballing stable
and were sister squads. In theory Kazakhstan FC
was the stronger squad due to how the two squads
were selected pre-tournament. However, a pre-tournament
warm-up game between the two teams back in England
produced a Kazbar victory. Could Kazbar FC repeat
the feat?
Kazakhstan
FC had mentioned that this pre-tour result had
given them a wake-up call so they would certainly
not take their opponents lightly. In a closely
matched contest we arrived at the interval all
square at 0-0.
There
was so much at stake in this game – not just a
place in the Plate Semi-Finals but also bragging
rights for the rest of the tour. The game was
crying out for someone to step forward and become
the hero of the hour. That man was Lewis Spurs
as his goal for Kazakhstan FC was the difference
between the two teams.
It
was a tough exit for Kazbar FC who had put so
much effort into the game but were not out of
the tournament.
