We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we would shortly see eight teams reduced to four teams. The first two teams to do battle were Kazakhstan FC and Kazbar FC in what was to be an intriguing tie.

The two teams came from the same footballing stable and were sister squads. In theory Kazakhstan FC was the stronger squad due to how the two squads were selected pre-tournament. However, a pre-tournament warm-up game between the two teams back in England produced a Kazbar victory. Could Kazbar FC repeat the feat?

Kazakhstan FC had mentioned that this pre-tour result had given them a wake-up call so they would certainly not take their opponents lightly. In a closely matched contest we arrived at the interval all square at 0-0.

There was so much at stake in this game – not just a place in the Plate Semi-Finals but also bragging rights for the rest of the tour. The game was crying out for someone to step forward and become the hero of the hour. That man was Lewis Spurs as his goal for Kazakhstan FC was the difference between the two teams.

It was a tough exit for Kazbar FC who had put so much effort into the game but were not out of the tournament.

The second Quarter-Final saw Waxus versus Athletic 8Minute Bilbao. It was a bizarre scenario whereby 3rd placed Waxus in Group C with 3 points met 4th placed opposition from Group D who ended up with 5 points. Athletic 8Minute Bilbao can consider themselves unlucky to finish in 4th place with just the one defeat in the group phase.

We expected a close game and that is exactly what we got as half-time came and went with the game still goal-less. The game was up for grabs going into the second period as both teams tried to lay claim for a spot in the Semi-Finals.

The first Quarter-Final had been decided by a solitary goal in the second half and this Quarter-Final was to go exactly the same way. The goal was scored by Mark Arthur for Athletic 8Minute Bilbao as they progressed to the next round. For Waxus, their tournament was over.

Brioche against Son Gual was Quarter-Final 3 and it would guarantee a Spanish team in the Semi-Finals.

Brioche was on debut so this was new ground for them. Son Gual had plenty of experience in the Plate to draw upon. They won the Plate at the 2013 Mallorca Fives and reached the Semi-Finals 12 months ago in the 2013 Mallorca Tournament. They had tasted Plate Quarter-Finals disappointment back in 2012 when they suffered 4-2 defeat at the hands of Whiteley Stags.

It looked like they would taste disappointment again as Brioche established an early 2-0 lead. David Bosch claimed both goals that put Brioche in firm control of this contest. Son Gual did pull one back after the break through Xisco Cots but Brioche had it covered as Jose Manuel Cammanjo sealed the victory at 3-1.

Brioche had made it through to the next stage but Son Gual would miss out this year. We hoped to see them back in action again next season.

The final Quarter-Final was France's The A Team versus Spain's Con Bun. The French team were arguably the favourites having reached a Cup Final at the 2013 Krakow Trophy. This was their second appearance in a Plate competition after missing out on the Cup in Budapest 2014 – a group that featured the eventual winners from Belarus. They then met formidable opposition in the Plate – FC Radbroke – who had won two previous eurofootballfives.com tournaments before.

It proved to be the case that The A Team had drawn a tough group again and, on paper, were one of the strongest teams in the Plate competition. Their opponents Con Bun were unproven at this stage and had struggled this morning with 3 defeats in their first 3 games. They picked up their first win of the day in the final group game so maybe that would turn their fortunes around.

Con Bun certainly started the game the brighter as they lead 2-1 at the break but Jeanco's goal had kept The A Team in it. In the second half Momo equalized for 2-2 and we finished level and went to penalties. The A Team held their nerve to win the shoot-out 3-2 and progressed.
