Game 6 of Group B, on early evidence, was likely to be a home banker as Cheesecake FC with two wins (6-2, 6-0) faced Taylor's Tigers with two defeats (0-10, 0-5). Stranger things have happened at our tournaments but it would be a brave man to bet against Cheesecake FC maintaining their 100% record.

Cheesecake FC didn't disappoint as they were well on course for 3 wins out of 3 by half-time. From the moment Ben Woods opened the scoring they never looked back as Kevin Raphael scored his 7th of the day before a Phil Shaw double and a third goal in as many games for Justin Rees.

In the second half Justin Rees went on to complete a hat-trick, as did Ben Woods. Mark Nordenfelt added to his account and Raphael notched goal #8 for him – already a clear contender for today's Top Goalscorer prize.

There was to be some joy for Taylor's Tigers as Leon Larkins scored his team's first goal of the day. Final score, 11-1.

Every time Cheescake FC had opened up a 3 point lead at the top of Group B, Universidad Palma quickly nullified the advantage by winning and levelling it up on points. They had done it twice and were looking to do it for a third time when they met Brioche in an all-Spanish encounter.

Cheesecake FC had beat Brioche 6-2 so there was our yardstick to measure the Universidad Palma performance. Brioche came into the game on the back of a strong 5-0 victory themselves so would surely be brimming with confidence. Any confidence they did have would have been quickly wiped out as Rafita (2) and Mariano Llamas forged a 3-0 half-time lead for Universidad Palma.

After the break, Rafita completed his hat-trick and with the points already sealed Hector Martilla Roca and Mariano Llamas added a fifth and a sixth for good measure. Jose Carlos Guillen Garcia did score a consolation for Brioche – final score, 6-1.

The result meant that Universidad Palma and Cheesecake FC were locked together on 9 points at the top of Group B. Both had secured Cup qualification but the Group title was up for grabs.

Kazbar FC had a game in hand on their opposition so far and that game in hand was now on Pitch B versus Taylor's Tigers. Kazbar had played the top two teams to date and would now target some points in their final fixtures to get some momentum into their tournament challenge.

For Taylor's Tigers, it was their last group game and they knew it was their last chance to get some points on the board. A draw or a win would give them an opportunity to make the Plate at the expense of their opponents in this game.

It was a very closely matched contest and the two teams entered half-time all level at 0-0. Could someone step up and take all three points as a draw, whilst clearly better than a loss, was not a great help in the context of the group table.

Taylor's Tigers needed the win more due to their inferior goal difference but they were not to get it as John Warin scored the only goal of the game to score his team's first goal of the tournament and, with it, win all 3 points.

Taylor's Tigers group campaign was over and they would be playing in the Wooden Spoon competition this afternoon.

Game 9 of Group B was the big one – Cheesecake FC versus Universidad Palma. It was a heavyweight contest and in the back of our minds we couldn't help thinking this could well be a dress rehearsal for the Cup Final later today. There was still a lot of football to be played today though.

Both teams had already secured Cup qualification. At stake now was the Group B title and, in theory at least, an easier Quarter-Final tie in the Cup knockout phase this afternoon. Either team could secure that objective with a win. The draw would see Cheesecake FC finish top due to a superior goal difference.

Both teams were used to scoring freely this morning but it was not to be in this fixture as everything became very tight. We went into the break level at 0-0. As with the previous fixture there would be just one goal to settle it. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Kevin Raphael with his 9 th strike of the day.

Congratulation to Cheesecake FC for taking the Group B title and they went through in style.

The game to wrap up Group B was Brioche versus Kazbar FC. It was a very similar affair to Cheesecake FC v Universidad Palma but at Plate level instead of Cup level. Both teams knew they would be playing Plate football this afternoon but 3rd place was up for grabs and the theoretical easier Quarter-Final tie….not to mention the matter of pride and honour.

The two teams both found themselves on 3 points and so a win for either would secure third position. Brioche had the superior goal difference so the draw would suit them more than Kazbar FC.

Brioche looked like they would do better than a draw when they opened the scoring in the first half through Diego Iniesta's second of the day. They were unable to extend their lead and Kazbar FC were unable to equalize and we finished at 1-0. After such a high scoring group we finished with 3 successive 1-0 victories as Brioche claimed 3rd place. Kazbar FC would settle for 4th but they had set-up a hugely intriguing Plate Quarter-Final tie….read on for details.
