Plate Semi-Final time and things were getting interesting. First up was Kazakhstan FC versus Athletic 8Minute Bilbao. Kazakhstan FC had dropped down a level from the 2013 Mallorca Tournament where they went out in the Cup Quarter-Finals but they had Plate experience from the 2011 Barca Fives where they went all the way to the Final but missed out 4-1 to HMS Sultan FC. Could they reach a 2 nd European Final?

Athletic 8 Minute Bilbao as part of the County (Re)United set-up also had Plate experience and there was a trend. At the 2011 Valencia Fives, as County (Re)United, they reached the Plate Quarter-Finals, at the 2012 Krakow Trophy, as D'ya Want Florentina they reached the Plate Semi-Finals and in the 2013 Barcelona Fives JF & The Pullbacks went all the way to the Final. On that occasion they missed out on success but if the trend continues maybe they will have glory this year?

So, which of these two teams would make a second Plate Final? It was due to be a heavyweight contest at this level as each team had only suffered one loss in the five games they had played to date. Athletic 8Minute Bilbao got off to the faster start as they looked to book their place in the Final.

In the second half Kazakhstan FC had quite a mountain to climb and that mountain became Everest when Athleitc 8Minute Bilbao extended the lead to 3-0. Their goals came from Mark Robinson, Mark Arthur and Pete Humphries.

The lead was an unassailable lead and Kazakhstan FC were out of the competition for this year. There are rumours we may see the lads at our Algarve event next year and we certainly hope that will be the case.

The second Semi-Final was an encounter between Brioche and The A Team. The two teams both came into the game on a run of 2 games unbeaten. Brioche were the last Spanish hope in the Plate competition and The A Team were the last French hope in the overall tournament to claim victories for their respective nations.

Brioche had made a fast start to their Quarter-Final when they lead 2-0 at the break versus Son Gual. They made an even better start to this game as they lead 3-0 at half-time. David Bosch got the ball rolling with Diego Iniesta and Jose Manuel Cammanjo virtually securing victory before the break.

The A Team had come from behind in the Quarter-Final but that was from 2-1 and not 3-0. This would be a much tougher task and ultimately proved to be a task that was beyond them. Brioche extended their lead to 4-0 when Jose Carlos Guillen Garcia completed the 4-0 win.

It was a sensational victory for Brioche who confirmed their place in the Plate Final. For The A-Team it was one game too much but we thank them for supporting our events in Budapest and Mallorca this year and hope another European adventure is not too far away.
