Game 6 of Group B saw Westfield Wanderers take to the field against Old Bromleians. Westfield Wanderers came into the game on the back of a win and if they could maintain the momentum would make it a 3-team tie at the top of Veterans Group B.

The task for Old Bromleians was to register their first goals and first points of the tournament. They had met the top two teams thus far and hope for a turnaround in form in the second half of the group. It was another good opening half like they had versus Policia Vets and they went into the break 0-0.

Old Bromleians managed to achieve one of their objectives in this fixture by breaking their goalscoring duck with both Mark Highland and Brett Stoneham finding the net. However, the goals would not be sufficient to earn them their first points of the day. There were goals galore in the second half as Samuel Gurner bagged a hat-trick and Daniel Parfitt opened his account for Westfield Wanderers.

There were now 3 teams locked together on 6 points and things were getting interesting.

With Westfield Wanderers moving on to 6 points, there was pressure on Policia Vets and €agles 3:36 to kick-on and re-establish a lead at the top of Group B. The two teams met in the next fixture in a top of the table clash.

We were treated to a superb game. It was €agles 3:36 who opened the scoring when Jon Spooner opened the scoring. It was a lead the €agles were to keep until half-time. Policia Vets had been here before in their opening fixture when they overturned a 1-0 deficit to claim victory. Antonio Bullon's 6th goal in 3 games made it 1-1 after the break and Policia Vets must have thought history was to repeat itself.

The game remained 1-1 for a spell though and as time was running out Jose Ignacio Bautista put Policia Vets 2-1 up. Surely a late winner for the local side. €agles 3:36 had not read the script though as Oliver Luchoomun equalized with the last kick of the game for 2-2.

The draw ended both team's 100% records but it did keep their unbeaten run's going. It also meant they each opened up a 1 point lead over Westfield Wanderers. Policia Vets lead the group on goal difference by just the one goal over €agles 3:36.

We then received the disappointing news that Sitges had been forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injuries. It was a big shame as it meant one less game for those teams who were yet to play Sitges and the 3-0 walkover win could well skew the final group table. There is not much else we can do given the situation though – sadly. It meant that the next scheduled fixture of Sitges versus Old Bromleians was awarded to the away team, 3-0.

Due to the withdrawal of Sitges – we knew that the last game of the group (Sitges v Policia Vets) would be a 3-0 win to Policia Vets. So, Game 9 of Group B would actually be the final game. We factored in the 3-0 win to Policia Vets meaning they would move on to 10 points and would qualify for the Cup. What was left for Westfield Wanderers and €agles 3:36 to play for:

Westfield Wanderers: Had to win to move above their opponents and into 2 nd position to qualify for the Cup relegating their opponents to the Plate.

€agles 3:36: Defeat would mean the Plate, a draw would be good enough for Cup qualification. A win would therefore naturally be fine to qualify for the Cup but a win by four goals would be interesting. 4-0 to €agles 3:36 would give them and Policia Vets an identical group record and with a 2-2 draw in the head-to-head we would need a penalty shoot-out to decide the Group B winners. A larger win or any other 4 goal win (i.e. 5-1, 6-2 etc) would see €agles 3:36 as winners).

So, hopefully that's as clear as mud. We've wasted your time going through the 4-0 permutation as that went quickly out the window as Westfield Wanderers opened the scoring in the first half. The onus was on €agles 3:36 to comeback after the break and although they scored through Jon Spooner further goals from Westfield Wanderers ensured they would be joining Policia Vets in the Cup.

There was another goal for Aaron Dix and two goals for Daniel Parfitt as they finished the group on a high. For €agles 3:36 it was the Plate competition and given their history at this level maybe there wasn't too much disappointment in that.
