The
2015 Mallorca Tournament Wooden Spoon Final was
the battle for 17th position, a consolation prize
and one last game to enjoy on these team's Mallorca
tour.
The
game would be contested by The Undatables of England
and Morgans Magaluf of Spain. The Undatables came
into the game as the 17th ranked team courtesy
of a 3 point haul compared to their opponents
1 in the group phase. Those 3 points had been
earned in the very first game of Group A but if
they could regain that form they would end the
day on a high.
It
was The Undatables who struck first when Mickey
Brankin fired home with a great finish. It could
have been 2-0 to the Undatables moments later
when Chris Lees danced from his own half to drive
at Morgans defence. He lay the ball off for a
1-2 and was millimetres away from applying the
finish to what would have been a great goal. Instead,
The Undatables found themselves pegged back at
1-1 as Rob Croll struck his fourth of the tournament
to equalize. Rob Croll then turned the game on
its head as his fifth of the day fired Morgans
Magaluf into a 2-1 lead. That's how we stood at
half-time.
After
the break Nick Schillito made it 3-1 to Morgans
Magaluf and a first win of the day was in sight.
The Undatables were not finished yet as Simon
Geoffrey Ignotus powered through the Morgans defence
only to hit the post and see his effort rebound
clear. Morgans Magaluf went straight up the other
end and sealed the game as Dave Joyce made it
4-1.
Congratulations
to Morgans Magaluf who finished the day how they
would've liked to have started it and they took
the Wooden Spoon prize. Our commiserations to
The Undatables who started so well but faded under
the Mallorca sun – we hope they had a great day
and a great weekend. Happy 40th to Chris Lees!
