Hurricanes came into Round 4 struggling – 3
defeats, depleted squad and now captain Joe
Latimer missing through injury. The last thing
they needed was a game against a Pelugueria
Mariano side that had won all 3 of their games
without conceding a goal.
Hurricanes had a mammoth task ahead of them
and applied themselves well to that task. They
kept running and put the tackles in and with
Martin Weltman up front had a proven goalscorer
in these tournaments for the Contejus Hurricanes
and Shahs of Sunset. Martin Weltman scored his
teams and his second goal of the tournament
in the first half but was unable to prevent
his team changing ends 2-1 down. Goals from
David Rivero Rigo and Rafael Rivero Rigo ensured
that Pelegueria Mariano would hold the advantage.
Mariano were in real need of all three points
as they looked to join ZVC Indoor Gent at the
top of the table. Every time the Belgians opened
up a three point lead then Pelugueria Mariano
quickly closed the gap. They did so again as
second half Rafael Rivero Rigo and Carlos Duran
Quesada goals wrapped up a 4-1 win.
