We began Round 5 with the top two teams decided (although not yet which order these two teams would finish) but the remaining 4 teams still had a lot to play for. Three points separated these teams with three of them all on three points. Indeed, three was the magic number.

Wrexham Rednecks and Centrale Paris would finish their campaigns first as they took to the field on Pitch C. Centrale Paris would only need a draw to secure third place but to qualify for the Cup as one of the two best third placed finishers you felt a win may be necessary – only time would tell for sure on this though.

A win for Wrexham Rednecks would see them finish on 6 points and possibly finish third subject to other Group A results and possibly qualify for the Cup subject to other results in Group A and the other two groups. A point would probably see them make the Plate.

All these two teams could do was give their all on the pitch, get the best result possible and hope it would be enough for their desired objectives. We reached half-time and the score remained at 0-0. Could either team break the deadlock? In short, no. The game finished 0-0 and these two teams' future in the tournament was still very much “to be confirmed”.

Next up was La Briocha versus The Undatables. La Briocha were in a 2-horse race for the Group A title with not only the title and honour at stake but also a preferable Cup Quarter-Final tie. To win Group A La Briocha needed to better Son Gual's result or match the result but with a swing in goal difference in their favour. Anything else would see Son Gual champions and them through as runners-up.

The Undatables were trying to arrest a run of three successive defeats and a game against a team with 10 points out of 12 and yet to concede was arguably not the fixture they would've chosen. However, stranger things have happened at the end of a group campaign.

The first goal was going to be crucial – you felt The Undatables had to score it to give themselves something to cling on to. It didn't go to plan as La Briocha forged ahead through Cristiano Manuel Somoza de Ilano. When Eduardo Benitez made it 2-0 the Undatables had a mountain to climb.

After the break La Briocha were ruthless with an Alexis Ferreyre double and first goal of the day for Enzo Rogusa completing a 5-0 win. La Briocha had lay down the gauntlet in the Group A title race – Son Gual, over to you….

The Undatables would have to wait and see if their points tally would see them through to the Plate or the Wooden Spoon play-off.

The final thing to wrap up Group A was 2Goals1Cup versus Son Gual. With all the other games completed these two teams knew what they needed to do.

Let's start with Son Gual for whom the equation was quite simple – win. A win of any form would see them finish as Group A winners either on goal difference (2 goal margin or better) or goals scored (1 goal win). Anything less than a win and Son Gual would be in 2nd position.

For 2Goals1Cup Cup qualification was now out of their reach due to Centrale Paris's point against Wrexham Rednecks. They would almost certainly be playing Plate football but the better their finish the better their Plate quarter-final draw. A win would see them finish 4th, a draw would see them finish 5th. A defeat would also see them finish unless they lost by 8 goals in which case they could fall below The Undatables on goal difference. A sixth place finish would leave them sweating on Group B and Group C results as to whether they would play in the Plate or Wooden Spoon.

At half-time things were going ok for 2Goals1Cup and Son Gual but superbly for La Briocha as 2Goals1Cup were holding the Spanish team to a 1-1 draw. Goals for Liam Savil and Darius meant it was honours even. La Briocha were 2Goals1Cup fans for the remainder of Group A. They would have been disappointed therefore to see the English team fall behind to a Dani Chanes goal. At 2-1 everything was now in Son Gual's favour. At 3-1 it was all over when Paul Roman completed the scoring.

Son Gual had won their group for the first time in eurofootballfives.com competition as they claimed the Group A title – many congratulations to them. 2Goals1Cup would finish in 5th place and progress to the Plate.
