On
Pitch B next was Scoregasm versus Seleccion
Balear. Seleccion Balear only needed a point
to guarantee third position but they had to
have an eye on the other groups to see if their
points tally would be enough to qualify for
the Cup. If they could win this game 9 points
would be enough as Centrale Paris in Group A
had already finished on 7 points. A draw would
see the Spanish miss out as although they too
would finish with 7 points the French had a
better goal difference.
A
defeat for Seleccion Balear would obviously
mean a win for Scoregasm and see these two teams
finish on 6 points (potentially with The Drip
Trays if they were to win the final game of
Group C). Scoregasm would need a 4 goal win
to go above Seleccion Balear in the table. Any
Scoregasm win would virtually ensure both teams
playing Plate football this afternoon.
It
was Scoregasm who took the early ascendency
as two goals for Shane James (his second and
third of the tournament) outgunned Juan Garcia's
fifth goal of the day and the English team lead
2-1 at the break. The second half was the one
to decide the game and it was not without controversy
– there was a disputed red card for Marc Milton
and reports of a spitting incident which we
later asked the referee about but he said he
didn't see anything but if he had there'd have
been a second red card in the game. It was all
pretty unsavoury and the game finished as a
feisty encounter. In amongst everything was
an equalizer for Seleccion Balear from Manuel
Pardo Exposito as the game ended 2-2.
