We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with 2 teams representing England, 1 representing Spain and the other representing Wales.

The first Semi-Final would see Seleccion Balear take on Wrexham Rednecks. Both teams had breezed into this round following some extraordinary goalscoring in the Quarter-Finals – the two teams had scored 15 goals between them in the previous round. Wrexham Rednecks were only the second team to reach a Plate Semi-Final following Goals Aloud who achieved that honour at the 2012 Algarve Open. They lost 1-0 to Contejus Hurricanes (who had just been knocked out in the Quarter-Finals here in Mallorca) so Wrexham Rednecks had history in the offing if they could collect one more victory.

It had been a great night for Wales on the eve of the tournament as a Gareth Bale goal saw them defeat Belgium so could this be an omen for Welsh footballing success across the continent and here in Mallorca too. If it was Seleccion Balear had other ideas!

The Spanish team was in a rich vein of form and was scoring goals for fun. Paco scored his first goal since Round 2 to put Seleccion Balear ahead before Juan Garcia and the Spanish number ”7” made it 11 goals in 3 halves of football to lead 3-0 at the break. Paco scored a second after the interval and Manuel Pardo Exposito also got in on the act as they swept into the Plate Final.

There would be no history for Wrexham Rednecks on this occasion but their form was on an upward curve from their debut in Barcelona to here in Mallorca. We hope we'll see them return to see their journey continue and hopefully go a step further next time. David Roberts scored a consolation goal – his fifth of the tournament to cap a fine individual goals haul.

The second Semi-Final was We've Got Wood versus 2Goals1Cup. We've Got Wood came into the game on the back of a tough Quarter-Final that had seen them edge out Contejus Hurricanes 3-2. 2Goals1Cup had also win by the odd goal in a banter-filled derby Quarter-Final and would now need to get their full focus back to reach the Plate Final.

We've Got Wood had an overall record today of 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. They had scored 7 and conceded 8 so far. 2Goals1Cup had 2 wins and 4 defeats with 5 goals for and 11 against. The teams respective records would probably make We've Got Wood the bookies favourites to reach the Plate Final.

If 2Goals1Cup had been underdogs they were on target for pulling off a surprise when a Simon Cross first half goal had given them the lead. Could We've Got Wood respond? They could in terms of performance but not in terms of goals and actually found themselves slipping further behind when Ross Penrose doubled the lead for 2Goals1Cup.

There was no way back for We've Got Wood who'd enjoyed a good debut in eurofootballfives.com action and we hoped this would be their first tour of many. Congratulations and good luck to Terry King on his forthcoming wedding.
