We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with England and the Netherlands both represented. FC Dwaze Zaken were the Netherland's last hope in this competition and they were up against Cruz Del Surely.

This was Cruz Del Surely's third semi-final in our tournaments. At the 2015 Budapest Fives they went out in the Plate Semis and last year at the 2018 Algarve Open they went out in the Cup Semis. Would it be third time lucky to reach the final?

Cruz Del Surely would no doubt fancy their chances as they beat the same opposition 5-1 in the group phase. This proved to be a much tighter contest though. The Dutch scored the opening goal through Arie Visser but Adam Cummins levelled it up at 1-1. In the second half Andy Baines put Cruz Del Surely 2-1 up but it was not enough for the win as Jan Moester equalized to make it 2-2. We would need a penalty shoot-out to decide this one.

This would be Cruz Del Surely's third penalty shoot-out in our tournaments. At the Riga Tournament in 2016 they lost in the Trophy QF (2-1) to One Calamski. Last year at the 2018 Algarve Open they lost in the Cup SF (4-3) to 9 Nana Budds. Again we ask, would this be third time lucky?

It was 3 penalties each and we saw them exemplary penalty taking with the teams level at 3-3 after the regular shoot-out so we went into sudden death. After the first round of sudden death we were still level, this time at 4-4. The fifth round of penalties proved decisive. FC Dwaze Zaken missed, Cruz Del Surely scored and they were through.

The second Semi-Final was an intriguing affair as AFC FYM met The Hoover Dams. The game was a derby match between the two teams from the Yac Club stable. It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but when they do it often has a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates.

In the knock-out phase of our tournaments to date, teams from Yac Club had reached the Plate QF (Riga 2016), Plate SF (Barcelona 2017), Cup QF (Mallorca 2018). They were guaranteed a team to reach the Plate Final here in Amsterdam but which team would it be?

The Hoover Dams came into this fixture with a goal difference of 21-6 in today's tournament with 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. The stats made them slight favourites compared with their opposition who had 3 wins, 3 defeats and a goal difference of 19-12.

In the first half it was AFC FYM who got their noses in front. There was just the one goal to separate the two teams and it was scored by Nick Pocock. The Hoover Dams hit back after the break to restore parity courtesy of Jonathan Trott's 8th goal of the tournament. We finished at 1-1 and, like the first Semi-Final, we needed a penalty shoot-out.

It was AFC FYM who ended up victorious as they won the penalty shoot-out 4-2 to claim their berth in the final.
