AFC FYM (Eng)

The first final of the day would see Cruz Del Surely versus AFC FYM. These two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Let's look at the two teams records:

Cruz Del Surely

Won 2, drawn 2, lost 3. Goals for (18), goals against (19)

AFC FYM

Won 3, drawn 1, lost 3. Goals for (20), goals against (13).

If you look at the two teams record's today there was very little between them. Statistically, AFC FYM had the edge with more games won and the better goal difference on the day. However, this Plate competition would be won on the pitch not on statistics. Both teams were competing in their first final in our tournaments.

On the field of play it was AFC FYM who took the early ascendency as David Netherway scored his sixth goal of the tournament. Cruz Del Surely had seen their sister squad (Cruz Del Sur) miss out on the 2018 Algarve Open title last year with a 1-0 defeat in the Cup Final. They must have hoped this tie wouldn't go the same way.

It didn't look likely as they turned this game around with Danny McGee scoring the vital equalizer with his eighth strike of the tournament. Alex Tawfik was yet to score today but what a time to get on the score-sheet as he scored his first in the tournament to give his team a lead in a European final. It got even better as he doubled his tally and made it 3-1 to Cruz Del Surely at half-time.

In the second half AFC FYM reduced the lead to 3-2 with a goal from Yogurt Miller. Alas for them it was to prove a consolation. We'd like to thank AFC FYM for attending and offer our commiserations for the Final. They earned runners-up medals in the presentation to cushion the blow. We hope they will join us again next summer.

Many congratulations to our winners – Cruz Del Surely. After touring with us since 2012 it was fantastic to see them collect a trophy and winners medals. It certainly looked like they enjoyed their celebrations and we hope it's the first trophy of many!
