We wish you a warm welcome to the Netherlands and the eleventh edition of the Amsterdam Fives since our debut in Amsterdam back in July 2008 (with a brief hiatus in 2013). We had a capacity 18-team signed up for the event with teams from England, France, Scotland, Switzerland and the Netherlands competing for glory. With our third annual Amsterdam Sixes being played on the same day this equalled our largest single Amsterdam weekend and we couldn't wait to get started.

This tournament was a hugely successful one for English teams with victories from 2008-2011. Since then we had a period of Dutch success from 2012-2016. England returned to winning ways with BSP FC (2017) and Melee FC in 2018. Who would be holding the coveted trophy aloft at around 17.00 this afternoon?

The first two challengers to get us underway in Group A on Pitch 1 this year would be FC Dwaze Zaken (Hol) versus Epsilon Rovers (Eng). Both teams were making their debut in our tournaments today.

It turned out to be a great start for Epsilon Rovers as two goals in each half saw them record a confident 4-0 victory. Anton Cole, Evan Day and Nick Petrou (x2) all found the back of the net en route to 3 points.

Game 2 of Group A was Sloterdijk (Hol) versus Shahs of Sunset (Eng).

Shahs of Sunset were the most experienced team in the 2019 Amsterdam Fives as they were making their 9th appearance in our tournaments. They have traditionally done well in the group phase finishing top (or joint top) of their group on 6 previous occasions. They had been slow starters in recent years though as they hadn't won their opening game since a 4-0 win over Rat Goblins at the 2014 Bratislava Tournament. The record reads:

Valencia Fives 2012: Lost 2-0 to Luminy Wolves (Fra)

Budapest Fives 2013: Won 2-0 versus Wokingham FC (Eng)

Barcelona Fives 2013: Won 3-0 versus ADP Dream Team (Spa)

Bratislava Tournament 2014: Won 4-0 versus Rat Goblins (Eng)

Lisbon Tournament 2015: Drew 1-1 with CCD Oeiras (Por)

Barcelona Fives 2016: Lost 2-0 to Bolivar (Spa)

Vilnius Tournament 2017: Lost 4-1 to Burritos (Eng)

Riga Tournament 2018: Lost 5-3 to Colonel Getafe (Lat)

It was a stunning start for Shahs of Sunset as Paul Lehair scored within the opening seconds of the game. They went 2-0 up before Jerry De Bruijn pulled it back to 2-1 at half-time. Huessein Adeus then equalized at 2-2 before Shahs of Sunset restored their lead and go on to win 4-2. Paul Lehair scored a second and there were also goals from Martin Weltman and Anders Schmachtenberg.

The final two teams in Group A were Luca Toni FC (Swi) and Cruz Del Surely (Eng).

Luca Toni's last eurofootballfives.com appearance was at the 2017 Barcelona Fives. In Group C they were unbeaten in their first 5 games (4 wins, 1 draw) but lost their last two games to miss out on the Cup as they finished third of eight teams. In the Plate competition they defeated Deportivo 2.0 3-2 to advance to the Semi-Final. Their journey ended after a 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina Turner 1.

It was the Swiss who got off to the faster start in this one as Matthijs Withagen struck the opening blow. He added a second before the break and as the teams changed ends it was Luca Toni FC who were in pole position for the victory.

The second half saw Cruz Del Surely come roaring back into the contest. Danny McGee scored his team's first goal of the day to make it 2-1 but ultimately time was against the English team. Luca Toni FC held on to complete the win and take all 3 points.
