We arrived at the Plate Quarter-Final stage and we would shortly see eight teams reduced to four teams. SC Sylt would meet Team Koopman. The pre-determined draw meant the 3rd best 3rd placed team would meet the best 6 th placed team with the former being SC Sylt. They would be favourites going into this game.

Team Koopman could not be written off though as they secured 4 points in the group phase – in what was a tough group. Team Koopman also had pedigree on their side as they were the defending Plate champions having picked up the trophy and winners medals 12 months ago.

We thought this might be closer than many expected (due to it being a third versus sixth placed team) but we were wrong – very wrong! SC Sylt came out for the knock-out phase firing on all cylinders. The game was done and dusted by half-time as the Germans had opened up a 5-0 lead. Sebastian Krauss scored the opener and his team never looked back. Marvin Gunther scored a hat-trick in the first half blitz with Rene Reizammer also scoring. There was no let-up in the second half with Rene Reizammer scoring a second half hat-trick.

Ferinho Moore scored a consolation for Team Koopman but their defence of the Plate competition was over in emphatic style.

The second Quarter-Final saw Naranjitos (Spa) take on Sutton on Tour (Eng) as 4th place from Group A would take on 6th Place from Group C. Normally Sutton on Tour would be playing in the Wooden Spoon competition but due to Woodmann Academy's no-show and We Pay People's retirement at the end of the group phase they were promoted to playing against their Spanish opposition.

Naranjitos would undoubtedly be favourites for this game based upon the morning's results as they had secured 5 points compared to their opponent's 0. Naranjitos had now gone 3 games unbeaten as they were finding a bit of form plus they had 2 x Plate victories on their eurofootballfives.com CV already ( 2014 Barcelona Fives and the 2015 Budapest Fives).

The first half here was closer than expected as Sutton on Tour raised their game – the break had obviously done them some good. However, they were unable to prevent themselves going into the break 2-1 down. Jack Kelly was on the mark for the English team. Captain Adrian Rodriguez Ortega and Miguel Angel Escutia Lozano were the men with the Naranjitos goals.

In the second half Naranjitos eased away from their opponents thanks to David Moya Aparicio (3) and Mario Alvarez Garcia (2). Jack Kelly scored again for Sutton on Tour as the game finished 7-2 to the Spanish.

Quarter-Final 3 was Cheesefake versus Shaolin Soccer. Due to We Pay People's withdrawal from the tournament at the end of Group B, Cheesefake FC were promoted to fourth position which afforded them a theoretically easier Quarter-Final tie. However, they should take nothing for granted against Shaolin Soccer. Although they finished 5 th in Group C it was a very strong group.

To be honest, we saw Shaolin Soccer's very first game and we thought they would be competing in the Cup this afternoon. What does this prove? That Group C was tough, Shaolin Soccer flattered to deceive or we are really bad judges of football – we'll let you decide on that one.

Cheesefake FC had warned us not to take their Fives squad too seriously today as they were on a stag weekend. Their results would bear that out to some extent in comparison to Cheesecake FC's usual performance which does include a Plate Final appearance before (2013 Mallorca Tournament).

It was not to be their day here as Shaolin Soccer emerged victorious. There was goals galore so far in these Plate Quarter-Finals and this game didn't disappoint. We'd had 19 goals in the first two games of the round and another 11 here. Shaolin Soccer scored the lion's share as the game finished 7-4. For those trying to keep score – the Dutch scorers were Bram Ter Stege (2), Fatih Tura (2) and Gijs den Hantogh (3). For Cheesefake Gary Hignett scored all 4 taking him to 7 for the tournament – not too shabby at all!

Three Quarter-Finals down, one to go as Purnell's Youth would play FC Potsdam. Goals had been the order of the day so far with 30 in 3 Quarter-Finals. We haven't trawled through the history books but we are willing to bet this is the highest scoring Quarter-Final round in all 86 of tournaments to date. Could this game live up to the others? Oh yes!

Purnell Youth qualified for this stage as the 4th placed team in Group C. They started off with 3 defeats – each to a team that finished with 12 points at the end of the group. Two of those results were just by the odd goal. They then won their last two games in a row so came into this fixture with renewed hope and confidence.

FC Potsdam's momentum was the polar opposite. They began well with a 0-0 draw (against the group winners) and then a 6-1 win. However, 3 successive defeats saw them slip down to 5th in the table. Could they resurrect their fortunes now the tournament was into sudden death?

The game was mighty close at half-time as FC Potsdam lead by the odd goal in 7. At this rate the referees would be calling for new pencils to keep track of the scores as the goals just coming and coming. FC Potsdam eased clear of their opponents in the second half as we finished at 9-4. Just the 13 goals then!

Ian Rosie started the scoring from an FC Potsdam perspective before Dan O'Neill in particular had a field day with 4 goals to his name. There were also contributions from Matt Berka (2), Joe Lazell and Adam Watson. The Purnell Youth scorers were Jacob Smith, Tom Cook and Connor White (2).
