As we entered the final Round of games the top three were decided but in which order was anybody's guess. At least two of those three would qualify for the Cup and possibly all three subject to results in the other groups. We started off with ZVC Indoor Gent versus BSP FC. This was the biggest game of the Round and all eyes were on Pitch C.

ZVC were the one team who knew they had qualified already. Their haul of 12 points would be enough even if they lost this and slipped to third position. However, they would no doubt want to win Group C. They needed just a draw to achieve this and a win to do it with a 100% record.

BSP FC knew a win would secure the Group C title for them due to their superior goal difference compared to ZVC Indoor Gent and Club Atlantico Nationale. A draw would probably see them through in either second or third (10 points is usually enough to be one of the two best third placed teams). A defeat would leave them sweating.

The game was dominated in the early stages by BSP FC as they raced to a 4-1 half-time lead. The final score was then 5-3 to BSP FC and you would think that was the end of that. However, controversy followed the game. It came from the fact that injuries had reduced the BSP FC squad to 4 players so they took a player from another team to compete. Our rules state that you can not swap players between teams (as this creates a whole host of problems). The problem in this case was that BSP FC asked the referee if this was permitted and the referee agreed it was ok to bring in a player from outside the squad.

Therefore, ZVC Indoor Gent could feel aggrieved that BSP FC had fielded an ineligible player but BSP FC could feel aggrieved that they had checked with the referee who had made an error in permitting it. We spoke with both teams at length to try and find a mutually agreeable resolution. The decision was the result would stand – if a referee gets a penalty decision wrong then the result stands with the referees decision (whether correct or not). We applied the same logic here and would like to thank ZVC Indoor Gent for their understanding with the decision.

As it was, both teams still qualified for the Cup as they both finished on 12 points and both could be proud of their performances throughout the group phase.

Next up was Club Atlantico Nationale versus Sutton On Tour. What did the result above mean for the team who started the round in third position?

The victory for BSP FC meant that both they and ZVC Indoor Gent sat on 12 points. Club Atlantico Nationale were currently on 9 points so a win would make it a three team tie and it would come down to goal difference. BSP FC were currently on +17, ZVC Indoor Gent were on +5. Club Atlantico Nationale were currently on +2. So, you can do the maths on what they required.

For Sutton On Tour, they needed a win and a swing in goal difference to finish in 5 th position. Only fifth would see them qualify for the Plate because the berth for the best 6 th placed team was going to Team Koopman from Group A on 4 points.

Club Atlantico Nationale had only dealt in 2-1 results so far and there could well be another one on the cards as they were 1-1 at half-time. Club Atlantico Nationale did make it 2-1 in the second half but then put on the after burners to extend that lead to 5-1. It was vital that they did as the 4 goal margin of victory lifted them from third position to second position and take the second Cup qualification place. Curtis Sutton claimed a hat-trick with Finley Percival-Smith scoring twice – both moving on to 5 goals for the tournament.

The goal for Sutton On Tour for the record was claimed by Joe McShee (his third of the day). The result consigned Sutton On Tour to sixth position but they would make the Plate after all. How come I hear you cry? Well due to We Pay People's withdrawal at the end of the group phase it meant Sutton On Tour would take their place in the group phase.

The last game of the group phase would be Shaolin Soccer versus Purnell Youth. The two teams were locked together on 3 points in equal fourth position in the Group C table. The teams were playing for outright fourth, for honour and also to secure a theoretically easier Quarter-Final tie in the knockout phase.

The equation was quite simple with the winner of this tie securing fourth position on 6 points. Should the game finish in a draw then it would be Shaolin Soccer who would take fourth position courtesy of their superior goal difference. They were -2 compared to Purnell Youth's -8.

The momentum was with Purnell Youth as they had lost their opening 3 games but came into the game on the back of a 4-3 win. They continued that form into the first half here as they lead 3-1 at half-time. In fact, it was 3-1 in both halves as they secured a sensational 6-2 victory. It was a great way to finish the group phase for the English team.
