Group B began with Hamid Hammers from taking on Cheesefake – the former were on debut, the latter were representing eurofootballfives.com regulars Cheesecake FC.

In fact, Cheesecake FC was the most capped team in Amsterdam – they will be making an incredible 9th eurofootballfives.com appearance. They have a rich history in our tournaments including winning the 2014 Mallorca Tournament. However, they will be focusing their efforts on the Sixes today and their trip to Amsterdam is a joint football tour and also stag weekend for Cheesecake FC veteran Mark Hignett. The best man has therefore said “ don't big up cheesecake 5s as it'll be a false promo ... we expect our 5s will suck :)”. Mind games perhaps?

The opening game of Group B proved to be a good tussle as Hamid Hammers and Cheesefake both put in a strong performance particularly defensively. When the referee drew the action to a close at the final whistle there would be just the one goal to separate the two teams. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Dan Paterson of Hamid Hammers whose strike would earn all 3 points for his team.

It was a perfect start for the Hamid Hammers in Europe! There was still plenty of time left for Cheesefake to put this early setback behind them.

Next up was supposed to be We Pay People versus Woodmann Academy. However, we were rocked by the news that Woodmann Academy had failed to show up. This was obviously hugely disappointing for everyone – not least the other teams in Group B.

We therefore awarded a 3-0 walkover victory to We Pay People for this particular fixture and moved onto the next game. We can only offer our sincere apologies to the remaining teams in Group B.

So, without further ado we headed on to game 3 of Group B which saw German team SC Sylt taking on Ian Todd FC of England. Both teams were making their inaugural eurofootballfives.com appearance and had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Who would be the Van Gogh or Rembrandt here at the Amsterdam Fives?

It was Ian Todd FC who made the early running. The teams reached the interval with the English team holding a 2-1 lead. Alex Howes (2) outgunned the strike from Rene Reizammer in the opening period. In the second half, Ian Todd FC put a little daylight between the two teams with Alex Howes particularly prolific in front of goal. He went on to complete his hat-trick and then add a fourth for good measure. He was not alone in the goal-scoring stakes as Jon Norman opened his personal account.

A second goal of the game for Rene Reizammer crowned a good personal performance for him but, alas for SC Sylt, they were to be consolation goals in the context of this fixture.

It was a great debut victory for Ian Todd FC in their quest to be the Dutch masters in Amsterdam.
