Vieze Vu (Hol)

After 58 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 59 – The 2017 Amsterdam Fives Cup Final.

The two teams set to do battle for the honour and glory of victory were BSP FC (England) versus Vieze Vu (the Netherlands). BSP FC were bidding to become the fifth English winner of this tournament but the first since Inter Women's win in 2011. If Vieze Vu were to become successful they would become the fourth Dutch winners and mean it was 4 tournaments in a row of local success after Benecke's win 12 months ago.

Let's have a look at the two team's record to preview the action:

BSP FC

Won 6 out 7 games with 1 defeat so far.

Best goal difference in the tournament +26.

Top scoring team with 37 goals.

The 1 st and 6 th top scorers in the tournament (Alex Richardson – 19, Kyle McLellan – 11).

Won 5 consecutive games.

Vieze Vu

Unbeaten in 7 games – won 5, drawn 2.

Had just one the Amsterdam Sixes (as Toros).

Third best goal difference in the tournament +13

Second top scorers in the tournament – 31 goals.

Had the joint 2 nd top goalscorers in the tournament (Tim Van Gelder & Gijs Kok – 12).

Won 4 cnsecutive games.

So, those are the facts and figures – where's your money?

This tournament had been characterized by goals aplenty and it was fitting that the goals continued to flow up to and including this Cup Final. There were huge crowds gathered around Pitch B as the two teams played in front of a sensational atmosphere. This game was very even for long periods and when we reached half-time there was nothing to separate the two teams.

Whilst Alex Richardson and Kyle McLellan were in double figures for the day, Zak Sandhu's contribution was no less important with some big goals at crucial times and he scored BSP FC's first of the final – his 7 th of the tournament. Alexander Richardson was also on target for the English team. For the Dutch, their two main scorers had been kept quiet but Jon Van Hoften and Brandan Ashley filled in – each scoring their second of the tournament.

As the second half progressed we still found ourselves level, this time at 3-3. Kyle McLellan was on the scoresheet for BSP FC and Tim Van Gelder scoring his 13 th of the tournament. With approximately 3 minutes to go it looked like penalties could be on the cards or the next goal could well win it. Step forward Kyle McLellan who hit a left foot shot on the turn into the far corner to make it 4-3.

With time running out Vieze Vu had to throw men forward and as they did they were hit on the break. Having competed in the Fives and Sixes all day we are sure there were a lot of weary legs out there. BSP FC were ruthless in taking advantage. Alexander Richardson and Kyle McLellan both went on to complete their hat-tricks. 4 goals in the last 3 minutes made a very even looking game at 3-3 look a bit one-sided at 7-3. The full-time score did not tell the full story though – however, the score didn't lie and BSP FC were worthy champions.

We offer our consolations to Vieze Vu who were absolutely superb and put in a stunning effort. They were so close to completing a unique double. They are the first team to collect two sets of medals in our presentation though. They would have to settle up for Runners-Up medals in the presentation for the Fives (although we are sure the Winners ones from the Amsterdam Sixes made up for this!)

Our congratulations go to BSP FC – 2017 Amsterdam Fives Champions! With youth on their side it could be the first of many.

Congratulations also to Alexander Richardson – tournament top goalscorer. 22 goals in 8 games is a very special achievement indeed!

Thank you to all the teams who competed. We hope to see you all again at another eurofootballfives.com tournament very soon.
