We Pay People (Hol)

The clock ticked over to 10.45 and still no sign of Woodmann Academy despite our efforts to track down and see what had happened to the Dutch team. We therefore concluded rather than just being late they would not be attending the tournament at all.

They were due to play Hamid Hammers who would now be awarded a 3-0 walkover win (although I am sure they would have wanted to pick up the victory on the field of play). All future fixtures against Woodmann Academy would see the opponents pick up a 3-0 win.

Ian Todd FC were up next against Cheesefake in a game that saw a first round victor take on a first round loser (although only narrowly).

Ian Todd FC had been hugely impressive in their opening game victory against SC Sylt (Ger) and an equally impressive win here would see them surge to the top of Group B. They were rampant with 5 goals against the Germans and were just as potent in front of goal here.

They scored two in the first half and added four more after the break in the second period. Cheesefake had been solid in their opening game with their defence breached just once but they were powerless to stop the Ian Todd FC onslaught here. Alex Howes was putting forward a good early case for the Top Goalscorer award as he scored four for the second game running. He was ably assisted by Jon Norman and Alex Bailey who were both on target.

Ian Todd FC sat on the summit of Group B with a goal difference of +9. They were a team to watch in this tournament.

The game that would complete Round 2 was SC Sylt (Ger) against We Pay People (Hol). The Dutch team had been made to wait to get onto the field of play due to the walkover in Round 1 versus Woodmann Academy. They must have been champing at the bit to get their campaign started.

We Pay People played in the 2016 Amsterdam Fives and found it tough going early on. A 1-0 defeat to The Rain Dragons was followed by a 3-2 loss to Spider Mans Ressies. A 4-2 win over Dick Farts FC got them back on track but they slipped to another defeat at the end of the group phase – 4-0 to Spain United. They qualified for the Plate competition where they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Indonesia FC to exit the competition.

SC Sylt suffered a 5-2 defeat in the opening game to the current league leaders but they bounced back superbly in this game. In the first half they surged to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Although We Pay People came back into it in the second the damage was done in that opening period. The teams shared 6 goals in the second period as SC Sylt won the game 6-3.

Christian Heinl opened the scoring for the team from Nuremburg before a hat-trick from Sebastian Krauss and a goal each for Christian Siegmund and Marvin Gunther.

The goals for We Pay People were scored by Noon and Zachario (2).
