It
was top of the table action at the start of Round
3 as Hamid Hammers entertained Ian Todd FC. The
two teams currently shared the lead in Group B
on 6 points with Ian Todd FC sitting above their
opponents on goal difference. If either team could
secure a victory in this game they would be red
hot favourites to qualify for the Cup. A draw
would not be the worst result in the world with
two games to go.
Hamid
Hammers were representing Scotland in this tournament
and our apologies to them for putting them down
as English in the pre-tour programme – is there
a bigger insult for a Scottish team? It has been
a long time since we've had Scottish success in
a eurofootballfives.com tournament. We have to
go back to 2008 when Edinburgh's Red Light Runners
were victorious in the Krakow Trophy and also
back to 2008 for the last time a Scottish team
reached a Cup Final – also Red Light Runners at
the 2008 Barca Fives.
Hamid
Hammers looked like they could be the team to
bring more success for Scotland as they produced
a stunning first half display. Ian Todd FC had
only conceded twice so far today but their defence
was breached three times in the first half alone
here. Ian Todd FC were to score themselves and
keep themselves in the hunt at 3-1.
After
the break Hamid Hammers extended their lead to
4-1 as they secured all three points and sole
occupancy of top spot. There was a brace each
for Nick Ghamgoasar and Dan Paterson. Jon Norman
scored for the third game in a row for Ian Todd
FC – alas for him and his team-mates it was only
to be a consolation on this occasion.
It
was walkover time again as the 11.45 Woodmann
Academy versus SC Sylt fixture was due. SC Sylt
collected their 3-0 victory which put them in
fourth place in the league table.
Game
#9 of Group B was Cheesefake versus We Pay People.
At the start of Round 3 it was the teams in 6th
versus 4th on Pitch B.
Both
of these teams had found it difficult on the pitch
so far this morning with Cheesefake suffering
1-0 and 6-0 defeats. They needed a result here
to avoid being cut adrift at the foot of the Group
B table. We Pay People were faring better in the
table with 3 points to their name although that
was the walkover win. On the field they had suffered
a 6-3 loss to SC Sylt.
A
win here could well change the fortunes for either
team and it was We Pay People who hit the front
here. Tom Reurts scored twice to put the Dutch
team in the ascendency at the break.
After
the interval, We Pay People went from strength
to strength with Tom Reurts scoring another two
goals in the second period. There was also two
goals for Zachario to add to his strike in the
previous game.
If
there was a consolation for Cheesefake it was
that they broke their tournament duck. Gary Hignett
was the man with the golden touch as he scored
both Cheesefake goals. Final score, 6-2.
