Last but not least, we come to Group C where the group began with England's Sutton on Tour making their debut against ZVC Indoor Gent – it would be a daunting start to eurofootballfives.com life for the English team.

 

ZVC Gent (Bel) were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance having made their debut at the 2015 Mallorca Tournament. It was so close to being the perfect debut as they finished second in the Cup Final.

 

They looked good from the start with a 3-0 win over Seleccion Balear (2015 & 2017 Plate winners, 2017 Mallorca Fives Cup winners as Valecuatro) and a 3-1 win over The Drip Trays. The 100% run continued with a 4-0 win over Contejus Hurricanes (Algarve Open 2012 Plate winners) and a 3-1 win over Scoregasm. They finished the group with a 1-0 defeat to Peluqueria Mariano but it didn't matter as they qualified for the Cup anyway.

 

In the Cup Quarter-Final they drew 0-0 with La Briocha and went through 3-2 on penalties. In the Semi-Final they got their revenge on Peluqueria Mariano (2016 Mallorca Tournament Cup winners) after a 1-1 drawn and another 3-2 penalty win. They met Ireland's Saipan FC in the Cup Final and narrowly lost 1-0. They would be a team to watch in Amsterdam!

 

We said it would be a daunting task for the English team and so it proved as the Belgian team were victorious 5-1. Michael Ingels, Anthony Chimkovitch, Robin Bogaert, Michael Ingels again and then an unfortunate own goal saw the team from Gent get off to the perfect start.

 

For Sutton on Tour there was a consolation of sorts particularly for Haydon Downing who had the honour of scoring his team's first goal in Europe.

 
 
 

Match 2 in Group C saw two teams on debut with BSP FC versus Purnell Youth. Although Purnell Youth were making their first appearance they were managed by player-manager Dave Thomas who had been to six eurofootballfives.com tournaments dating back to 2010 as part of the Norton Old Boys team. During that time he picked up Plate Winners medals from the 2012 Mallorca Tournament and 2015 Algarve Veterans Tournament.

 

Back here in 2017 at the Amsterdam Fives it was BSP FC who edged a reasonably close first half. They lead by the odd goal in three. The second half was a different story though as BSP FC moved through the gears and hit Purnell Youth for six. Chief architect of the victory was BSP FC's #7 Kyle McLellan who scored four. He was ably assisted by Alexander Richardson with 2 plus a goal each from Zak Sandhu and Aaron Ward.

 

When Tom Cook scored for Purnell Youth his team were still in the mix but at the full-time whistle his goal proved to be a mere consolation. There was still plenty of time for Purnell Youth to recover.

 
 
 

Game 3 of Group C saw Club Atlantico Nationale taking on Shaolin Soccer. It was England versus Holland with both teams making their eurofootballfives.com debut. With no previous history in our tournaments we looked forward to this game with relish to see how the teams would perform on the European stage.

 

It proved to be a really good game with the teams looking very capable of doing good things in this tournament. At the end of a competitive first half it was Club Atlantico Nationale who held a narrow advantage. They lead 1-0 when the teams changed ends thanks to a strike from Finley Percival-Smith.

 

Unlike the previous game on Pitch C this game remained tight after the break. The two teams exchanged a goal each with Finley Percival-Smith grabbing his second of the fixture for Club Atlantico Nationale. At the other end Bram Ter Stege had the honour of scoring Shaolin Soccer's first goal in eurofootballfives.com action.

 

The final score was 2-1 to Club Atlantico Nationale who joined ZVC Indoor Gent and BSP FC at the top of Group C.
