Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 4. Match 10 of the group promised to be an intriguing encounter between Argon'ze (currently in third) and Fleet Street Elite 1 (currently in sixth position). If Argon'ze could win they would move up to joint-second and close the gap on the leaders to 1 point (although the two teams above them would have a game in hand but that was against each other). Fleet Street Elite 1 were looking to get their first win on the board. Whilst they lost their opening two (against the top two) they would have been disappointed by the margin of defeat to FC Dad. They had the chance to redeem themselves against the French.

Sadly for supporters of the English team it was Argon'ze who hit the front. Benjamin Cahart scored for the second successive game to put the team from Paris ahead. 1-0 became 2-0 after the teams changed ends with Thibault Dyen opening his personal account.

Fleet Street Elite 1 were back in it when Chris Cooke fired home for 2-1. It was his team's third goal of the day. If they could grab a second in this game (and fourth for the tournament) then they would register their first point on the board. It was not to be though as the equalizer ultimately proved elusive and Argon'ze had enough in the tank to secure all 3 points.

Match 11 of Group C was the big one – the battle between the top two at the start of Round 4. It was Mariano FC versus FC Broxelona A. If the two teams were watching the game above then they will have seen Argon'ze close the gap at the top. A win here for either team would secure Cup qualification.

Mariano FC were looking in good form with 9 points from a possible 9 and had shown they could win the tight games after beating FC Dad and Het Sterretje. FC Broxelona A had taken 7 points from 9. They started off with 2 wins then a draw last time out although the feeling from the Broxelona camp was that they should really have taken 3 wins after the result against Argon'ze was a missed opportunity.

We felt regardless of the result of this game both teams would qualify for the Cup but this was a good chance to remain unbeaten and keep their tournament momentum going. It was also an opportunity to lay down a marker for their tournament credentials.

It was an opportunity that was grabbed with both hands….by Mariano FC. The Spanish team seemed to up their game for their toughest group fixture to date. Rafael Rivero Rigo scored the opener before Mariano Llamas Andreu gave his side a 2-0 cushion at half-time. Mariano went on to extend their lead in the second period with further strikes from Jose Salinas Acosta and Rafael Rivero Rigo again. Luke Blackwell bagged a consolation for FC Broxelona A. Final score, 4-1.

The game that would take us into the final round of fixtures would be Het Sterretje versus FC Dad. This would be a pivotal game for these two teams – they both sat on three points with six points on offer. If either team could claim two wins in their final two games then they would be in with a very real shout of Cup qualification.

Het Sterretje had started off with a win but had now lost twice in a row. FC Dad's form was the opposite with two defeats in a row before securing victory in their last game. They had the momentum and winning their last game 5-1 would have been a huge boost to morale.

Indeed, it was FC Dad who kept that momentum going as they hit the front thanks to Ben McNamee and David Crewdson. They were sitting pretty at half-time with a 2-0 lead. If there was any chance of a Het Sterretje comeback it was wiped out with two goals in the space of a minute during the second period. Graham Dodds and then Calum Jones both scored to send FC Dad on their way to a 4-0 win.

After two 1-0 defeats the response from FC Dad had been emphatic with 9 goals scored and just one conceded since. They now had every opportunity of qualifying for the Cup for the second tournament in a row. Het Sterretje knew they would be playing Plate football this afternoon.
