Last but not least, we come to Group C where the group began with Argon'ze (Fra) verus Het Sterretje (Hol). The Dutch team were mak ng their debut.

Argon'ze made their debut at the 2016 Barcelona Fives. They were drawn in the 8-team Group C and made a very solid start with two draws including a 0-0 against the eventual champions in their opening fixture. They then struggled with three defeats before a strong finish. They won their final two games (both 1-0) to finish in 5th position. It meant they qualified for the Trophy knock-out phase where they departed at the Quarter-Final stage due to a 4-1 defeat to Spanish side Bolivar.

Roel du Maine scored the opening goal for Het Sterretje in eurofootballfives.com competition. When the half-time whistle blew they were in control leading 1-0 but the winning margin was a narrow one. After the break they made the game look more comfortable when they added a second from the boot of Rob Vreugdenhil. The Dutch team took all 3 points and had a perfect start to the tournament.

Match 2 in Group C saw Mariano FC of Spain take on England's FC Dad. Both teams were experienced in our tournaments – Mariano FC here in Mallorca, FC Dad across the spectrum of our destinations.

Mariano FC (as Peluqueria Mariano) were debutants in 2015 and made a great start. They won Group C with a 100% record scoring 12 goals and conceding just 1 in the process. A 5-0 win over Dynamo Gunt followed in the Cup Quarter-Finals and they were looking like one of the tournament favourites. A 1-1 draw with ZVC Indoor Gent (Bel) in the Semi-Finals saw them exit 3-2 on penalties. We asked last year if they could go on to win it in 2016 – they could.

They had another 100% group record with 5 wins to take the Group A title. They scored a massive 24 goals (4 against). The Quarter-Finals saw them sweep Relentless FC aside (6-1) before a 2-2 draw with Brioche FS in the Semi-Finals. This time they were victorious in a Semi-Final shootout and earned a place in the Cup Final against Los Pibes. They won it 3-1 and will arguably be the favourites for the 2017 Mallorca Fives.

They found FC Dad a tough proposition and it looked for all the world that a solid defensive display from the English team might earn them a point. However, in the dying embers of the game, Jose L Salinas Acosta found the breakthrough and the hosts took the game 1-0.

The last two teams to get underway were Fleet Street Elite 1 versus FC Broxelona A – both representing England in the tournament draw.

Fleet Street Elite FC were making a fourth eurofootballfives.com appearance when they took to the field in Mallorca. They made their debut at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament playing as “Lads of Lisboa”. They made a fine start with a 5-2 victory over Breckland FC. Defeat followed to Hungary's Csabagyongye before victory over FC Dad (1-0) and 2 defeats to the 2 Portuguese sides in their group. They finished 4th in their group and qualified for the Plate Semi-Finals before going out to FC Dynamoes. Their 2nd appearance was at the 2015 Budapest Fives where they finished 4th in their group to progress to the Plate competition. They drew 2-2 in the Quarter-Finals with Peckham Legends and went on to win the penalty shoot-out. A narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain's Naranjitos saw them exit at the Semi-Final stage.

12 months ago they were in action at the 2016 Krakow Trophy with two squads for the first time. The Krakow tournament was of a particularly high standard in 2016 and as a result the two teams found it tough going – Fleet Street Elite 1 finished 6th in Group A, Fleet Street Elite A finished 5th in Group C. Both teams avoided the Wooden Spoon and would play in the Plate knock-out competition where they would exit at the Quarter-Final stage. A fresh start awaits in Mallorca.

We'll look at FC Broxelona A in more detail later but based on previous results in our tournaments you'd have made them favourites for this game and they lived up to that billing. The first half ended level at 1-1 thanks to goals from Luke Blackwell (Broxelona) and Chris Guthridge (Fleet Street Elite). It was in the second half this game was won with Adam Henderson giving FC Broxelona the lead before Scott Morgan sealed the win, 3-1.
