We began Round 4 with Brioche FS versus FC De Rimmer. In the battle for the Group A title Brioche FS had the opportunity to strike first and put points on the board before FC Maroon and KML would take to the pitch. The Spanish team were just 1 point behind the English and the Dutch. It looked a three-team battle for the top two automatic Cup qualification places.

FC De Rimmer had a chance to do their Dutch colleagues, KML, a favour if they could take something from this game. They had been competitive in Group A without getting reward for their efforts. Although they lost their first 3-0, they had then secured a 1-1 draw and a narrow 1-0 defeat. This would not be an easy game for Brioche FS.

The Spanish did open the scoring though through Assam Ndiaye Diome. It was to be the only goal of the first half. In the second half Wilmer Esteria Meza doubled the advantage for Brioche FS and there was to be no way back for the travelling team.

FC De Rimmer did all they could to pull a goal (or two) back but were unable to breach the strong Spanish defence who were on their way to 3 clean sheets in succession. The three points is what the Spanish wanted and it was the three points that they got.

The above result meant that FC Maroon had slipped a place down to third but they had a game in hand. That game in hand was the 12.30 fixture on Pitch C versus Ze'Argon. FC Maroon needed a win to leapfrog Brioche FS and KML to go back to the top.

Ze'Argon needed a result to climb off the bottom of the table. The French team had got off to a solid start with a 1-1 draw but two successive defeats had left them in trouble at the foot of the table. Cup qualification was still an outside possibility as one of the best third placed teams but they would have to win their final two group games and hope other results (not just in Group A) would go their way.

The two teams reached the break at 0-0 but we would get some goals in the second half. We would get two goals in fact and both went to FC Maroon. The Alawis had been a rich source of goals for FC Maroon over the years and they continued that form here in Mallorca. James Alawi broke the deadlock here before Matt Alawi sealed the win with a second.

The tournament clean sheet for Ed Brangwin remained intact and FC Maroon were top of the table once more. Could KML join them again?

The only thing left to settle in Round 4 was the not-so-small matter of KML versus FC Broxelona B. KML had seen FC Maroon and Brioche FS move above them in Round 4 with wins. They needed a win to return to the top themselves. Anything else would leave them in third position.

FC Broxelona B could still make the Cup. They needed to win this and their final game whilst hoping KML would lose their final game. They would then be in third place on 8 points and we would have to see if that was enough to be one of the two best third placed finishers. So, the English needed a win and they were on their way when George Nicolaou put them ahead in the opening period.

The second half kicked off with FC Broxelona B still 1-0 up and keeping their Cup hopes alive. They then suffered a big blow as Brian Vreugdenhill made it 1-1. Neither team could go on and find a winner.

Draws can often be considered as one point gained or two points dropped. For KML it will feel like both. Having been behind in the game, to grab an equalizer could certainly be considered a point gained. However, in the context of the Group A table it would feel like two points dropped. The wins for FC Maroon and Brioche FS would mean that KML dropped from 1 st place to 3 rd in the table.

For FC Broxelona B this will no doubt feel like 2 points dropped. They were ahead and on their way to all three points. It was a win that would have kept them in the hunt for Cup qualification. As it was, the Dutch equalizer meant it was now three 1-1 games in four fixtures and fourth was the highest they could finish in the table.
