The
2017 Mallorca Fives kicked off our 9th season
on the glorious island of Mallorca. It was the
first of a double header of tournament weekends
in the Balearics as we also return to Mallorca
on the 10th June for the 2017 Mallorca Tournament
& Mallorca Veterans Tournament.
With
blue skies, the sun shining and the beach as a
perfect back-drop we had 18 teams representing
Argentina, England, France, the Netherlands and
Spain competing for the ultimate title. After
60 games of action it was Valecuatro (Spa) who
emerged victorious as they defeated Forn De N'aina
(Arg) 3-0 in the Cup Final with some silky skills
on display.
In
the Plate competition there was travelling success
for FC Shark (Eng). They lifted their first silverware
in eurofootballfives.com tournament action as
they defeated Mannenliefde of Holland thanks to
a last minute equaliser and a penalty shoot-out
win. It looked like the Dutch may hold on for
a win as FC Shark hit the post and had two efforts
cleared off the line but they eventually pulled
level in dramatic fashion.
The
personal honours were claimed by Pascal Moreno
Cortes of Valecuatro who scored 10 on the
day. He scored two in the Cup Final which not
only helped his team to glory but lifted him into
position "numero uno" for the golden
boot.
